Memorial
This site is dedicated to Wayne Abernethy.

Our beloved Wayne passed away from a prolonged illness while at home with his loving wife Fran by his side.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Helen Abernethy of Statesville, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School.

During his lifetime, Wayne honorably served in the United States Navy for 21 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He continued working for a government contractor until retirement in 2009.

He is survived by Frances, his wife of 35 years, and two children- Rhonda Hunt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Keith Abernethy of Conover, NC. He is also survived by three brothers- Alan Abernethy of Hendersonville, NC, Lynn Abernethy of Clemmons, NC, and Paul Abernethy of Raleigh, NC. Other surviving family members include grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private military memorial service was held in his honor in Wilmington, NC.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation or to The Wounded Warriors Project
