...Joe Calvetti

("We're very proud and I want everybody to know that," Raul said, choking back tears. "We want everybody to know he was a Calvetti. He was a father. He was a brother. He was a son. And he is loved by all.")

Esperanza Calvetti expected her husband to come home Friday night.

Jose Jaime Calvetti -- Joe to his family and friends -- had gone out with two longtime friends.

"He told me that he loved me and would be back in a little while. Not to worry," Esperanza said quietly Sunday afternoon. "I woke up at five or 5:15 (a.m.) to feed the baby and he wasn't there. I kept looking at the windows and checking ... At 6 the doorbell rings. I thought he forgot his keys but it was the police."

Joe, 30, was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle early Saturday morning after a fight and vehicle chase.

Gabriel Aldaz, 23, who was driving a 1986 GMC Jimmy, was charged with murder and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $250,000 bond.)

"(Joe) didn't go looking for trouble. He was coming home. They were bringing him home and that (man) killed him for no reason," Esperanza said, her voice quivering. "I don't know what he was thinking that made him do that."

As Joe lay dying, his childhood friend Adrian Kondo stayed by his side.

"He stayed and he held his hand," Esperanza said. "He didn't leave his side for a second."

Joe's family gathered in his childhood home Sunday afternoon to remember the El Paso native and support one another.

"At a time like this it means everything to us as a family to know when things were at their worst they didn't leave him," Joe's brother, Raul Calvetti Jr., said. "He didn't die alone."

Joe's family remembered the truck driver as a man with a kind heart and deep love for those around him.

"He came off as a hard guy, but he's a softy," his nephew Raymond Calvetti, 20, said...)

:We remember the way Joe could never resist
lending a hand.

His heart was too big for him, "The puppy on the street." The person on the corner. He couldn't not help. He was what brought the family together.

His job as a truck driver made him happy, He would always make sure to bring home small tokens from the cities he visited -- toys, rocks, knickknacks, photographs and even food. He called often from the road, telling tales of the things he had seen.

He was the cook in the family, He would mix his own concoctions.

He was also the family's welder, the craftsman, the joker, the computer geek and the best friend.

It would always surprise you the things he could do, he loved his whole family, pets, cars, and loved collecting things.

He took pride in being italian.
He took interest in the Calvetti family's history, he loved meeting new family members, even if it meant traveling out of town.

Jose "Joe" Calvetti is greatly missed and loved!
:May you rest in paradise tio, you will always be in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers.

I miss you so much. It's been such a long time since 2005. I'm growing up now into a young man, that I know you would be proud of. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I can't wait to see you again. I love and miss you so much!
