Memorial
I DEDICATED THIS MEMORIAL TO MY DEAR COUSIN RICKY,WHO WAS TAKEN TO SOON. HE WAS ONLY 41,(THE OBIT WAS WRONG,HE WASNT 42,RICKY PASSED AWAY ON MAY 6TH 1998, HIS BIRTHDAY WASNT TILL DECEMBER 23RD),THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT, RICKY DIED IN HIS SLEEP.(I HOPE THATS TRUE) THANK GOD HE WAS TAKEN IN HIS SLEEP AND DIDNT HAVE TO SUFFER,THIS ANGEL JUST WENT TO SLEEP ONE NIGHT IN MAY 1998, AND NEVER WOKE UP,AND NOW, HE'LL DREAM FOR EVER,I HAVENT SEEN ANY OF MY FAMILY IN ALMOST 40 YEARS, I LOST CONTACT WITH THEM, AND RICKY DIED OVER MANY YEARS AGO, BUT TO ME ITS LIKE IT JUST HAPPENED. RICKY WAS THE ONLY SON OF THOMAS LAMAR, AND LILLIAN MARIE KILPATRICK.HE HAD TWO OLDER SISTERS ,PATSY AND PEGGY,HE WAS BORN IN AUGSBURG GERMANY BECAUSE HIS FATHER WAS STATIONED OVER THERE IN THE ARMY, BUT HE WAS AS AMERICAN AS APPLE PIE AND BASEBALL.AS A CHILD RICKY DREAMED OF BECOMING A PROFFESIONAL NFL FOOTBALL PLAYER THAT WAS HIS GOAL BACK THEN, I BELEIVE HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR THE CHICAGO BEARS. UNFOTIONATLY HIS DREAM NEVER CAME TRUE, BUT IM SURE HE NEVER GAVE UP ON IT. RICKY WAS MORE LIKE MY BROTHER TO ME THAN A COUSIN, AND I WONT LET HIM EVER BE FORGOTTEN, HE WAS MY PLAYMATE AND MY BUDDY AS A CHILD. HE LOVED PLAYING GUITAR, AND HE LOVED HOCKEY TOO.I LIVED WITH MY AUNT AND UNCLE AFTER MY MOTHER DIED IN 1965,(I CAME TO LIVE WITH THEM IN EARLY 1966 TO LATE 1970)AND RICKY AND ME DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER,I KNOW HE PASSED AWAY YEARS AGO, AND I REGRET NOT BEING ABLE TO TELL HIM GOODBYE, AND THAT I LOVE HIM, RICKY HAD A LEARNING DISABILITY HE JUST HAD A PROBLEM LEARNING TO READ AND WRITE, BUT HE WAS VERY SMART. HE GRADUATED FROM HAMMOND HIGH SCHOOL IN ABOUT 1976, HE GOT HIS DRIVERS LISCENSE,EVEN BOUGHT A CAR.(A ROAD RUNNER FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND),DROVE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK HIS SELF, HE WORKED AT INLAND STEEL FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS,(I NEVER WORKED THAT LONG AT ANY PLACE)AND HE WAS EVEN A GUN COLLECTOR, NOW YOU HAVE TO TAKE SHOOTING LESSONS TO GET A PERMIT AND HE HAD ABOUT A DOZEN DIFFERENT KINDS OF WEPONS IN HIS COLLECTION, HE LOVED TV, ESPECIALLY SPORTS,AND HE COULD PLAY GUITAR,I CONSIDER ALL THAT TO BE QUITE SMART MYSELF. WE LEARNED HOW TO PLAY GUITAR TOGETHER,HE NEVER MARRIED, ALTHOUGH I DO WISH HE HAD HAD CHILDREN. BUT THEN AGIAN ,RICKY WAS ONE OF A KIND, HE WAS A BIG GUY,TALL,ABOUT 6 FOOT 4", 250LBS,AND HE WAS A BIG TEDDY BEAR, HE WAS THE SWEETEST PERSON I KNEW,OBSEST WITH SPORTS,EVEN IN THE COLDEST WEATHER ,YOU'D FIND HIM OUTSIDE PLAYING HOCKEY, OR FOOTBALL, HE LOVED GUITAR, WE BOTH DID, WE WERN'T VERY GOOD AT THE TIME, BUT WE WERE LEARNING, HE HAD A VERY INOCENT CHARACTER ABOUT HIM, HE BECAME VERY OVERWEIGHT,AND SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE STARTED SMOKING,AND ENDED UP WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND HEART DISEASE,<(IT RAN IN HIS FATHERS SIDE OF THE FAMILY)HE WAS FORCED INTO RETIREMENT AT INLAND STEEL BECAUSE OF HIS HEART PROBLEM, HE BECAME VERY INACTIVE, AND A HERMIT,IF I HAD BEEN THERE, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN HIM OFF HIS DUFF AND MADE HIM TAKE BETTER CARE OF HIS SELF.I FEEL SO SAD TO KNOW I'LL NEVER SEE HIS SMILING FACE AGIAN.I JUST FOUND THIS PICTURE OF HIM, ITS FROM ABOUT HIS 11TH GRADE HIGH SCHOOL YEAR BOOK PICTURE( FROM ABOUT 1975) SO FAR,ITS NOT VERY GOOD, BUT IT GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT THIS ANGEL LOOKED LIKE.. HE WAS ABOUT 17 OR 18 HERE, BUT IM STILL LOOKING FOR MORE PICTURES OF HIM,( IN HIS 30'S AND LATE 30'S) I WILL CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY (12/23/1956) FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, ILL MAKE A CAKE, LIGHT A CANDLE, AND WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AND LET HIM KNOW, HE IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, IN MY HEART AND THOUGHTS, I WELCOME ALL FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND VISITERS TO JOIN ME IN HIS MEMORY..YOU CAN WRITE A STORY OR MEMORY OF RICKY ON THIS SITE.... I REMEMBER RICKY, ME ,MY AUNT AND UNCLE USE TO LOVE WATCHING THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX AND CUBS PLAY DURING BASEBALL SEASON, WE WOULD POP SOME POPCORN, POUR SOME MILK AND GATHER ROUND THE TV JUST ABOUT EVERY NIGHT OUR TEAMS WERE PLAYING,IT WAS ALMOST LIKE A TRADITION.MY AUNT AND UNCLE ON THE COUCH, AND RICKY AND ME ON THE FLOOR WITH FRONT ROW SEATS,AND WE WOULD ALL REALLY GET INTO IT,AS KIDS, I REMEMBER ONE OF RICKYS FAVORITE SONGS WAS NA NA HEY HEY GOODBYE. RICKY WAS TAKEN TO YOUNG, HE HAD SO MANY YEARS AHEAD OF HIM , SO AT AGE 41, HE'LL ALWAYS REMAIN.... "FOREVER YOUNG"..AND THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO YOU AND YOUR MEMORY RICKY...I MISS YOU RICKY, AND I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH BUDDY. YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE FOGOTTEN.LOVE ALWAYS ....YOUR COUSIN LYNN.......( PLEASE SIGN THE GUEST BOOK TO LET ME KNOW YOU'VE VISITED THIS ANGEL, THANKYOU) MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS; kaveman228@yahoo.com

I REMEMBER WHEN WE LIVED IN CALUMET CITY ILL, JUST OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO, EVERY CHRISTMAS EVE RICKY,ME,AND MY AUNT AND UNCLE WOULD ALL JUMP IN THE CADILAC JUST AS IT WAS GETTING DARK AND GO FOR ALITTLE CRUISE IN THE WELL KEPT WINDING SIDE STREETS OF OUR NEIBORHOOD AND LOOK AT ALL THE BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS ON PEOPLES HOUSES IN OUR AREA, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, WE'D GO ON HOME HAVE ALITTLE SNACK AND GO TO BED, BUT RICKY AND ME COULD NEVER GO RIGHT TO SLEEP ON CHRISTMAS EVE,WE'D LAY AWAKE WAITING AND HOPING TO CATCH MY AUNT AND UNCLE PUTTING PRESENTS UNDER THE TREE BUT, WE ALWAYS ENDED UP FALLING ASLEEP..(HERES A LITTLE STORY ILL NEVER FORGET).NOW.....OUR HOUSE HAD 4 YARDS, 1 FRONT YARD, 1 SIDE YARD 1 BACKYARD, AND 1 BIG BACKYARD BEHIND OUR BACKYARD, THIS IS THE YARD WE PLAYED IN, PLAYED BASEBALL, FOOTBALL,GAMES ETC,WE LIVED IN A SEMI COUNTRY AREA, AND RIGHT NEXT DOOR THERE WAS A GUY( A FARMER I GUESS)THAT GREW SHRUBS AND VARIOUS LANDSCAPE PLANTS, IT WAS ALL FENCED IN (WHITE PICKET FENCE, ABOUT 2 OR 3 ACRES), AND HE WAS A MEAN OLD GUY, SOMETIMES OUR BASEBALLS OR FOOTBALLS WOULD ACCIDENTLY GO OVER THE FENCE, AND WE'D HAVE TO HURRY UP AND GET IT BEFORE HE SEEN IT, OR, US HOPPING THE FENCE TO GET IT, IF HE SEEN US HE'D CUSS US OUT, OR GO TELL MY AUNT AND UNCLE, HE WAS VERY RUDE ABOUT IT TOO.WE WERE ABOUT 11 OR 12 YEARS OLD AND ONE SUMMER DAY RICKY AND ME WERE PLAYING CATCH, YOU KNOW, TOSSING THE BASEBALL BACK AND FORTH, WELL, I OVER THREW THE BALL AND IT WENT IN HIS YARD, SO WHO EVER THROWS IT OVER THE FENCE WAS SUPPOSE TO GO GET IT, WELL, I HAD JUMPED THAT FENCE DOZENS OF TIMES, SO, I FIGURED I'D JUST HOP OVER AND HOP BACK OVER REAL QUICK, SO, I TOLD RICKY TO WATCH OUT FOR THE FARMER WHILE I GOT THE BALL I CLIMBED UP ON IT AND KINDA JUMPED STRAGHT DOWN,AND AS I CAME DOWN ON THE OTHER SIDE, I SEEN THAT MY FEET DIDNT TOUCH THE GROUND, I REALIZED AT THAT MOMENT THAT I HAD GOT HOOKED BY THE SEAT OF MY PANTS ON THE FENCE, AND I WAS JUST DANGLING THERE, I STARTED YELLING AT RICKY TO HELP ME GET DOWN, AND I LOOKED BACK TO SEE RICKY ROLLING AROUND ON THE GROUND LAUGHING HIS BUTT OFF,I HAD RIPPED A BIG HOLE IN THE BACK OF MY PANTS AND UNDERWARE, AND MY WHOLE BUTT WAS HANGING OUT. I WAS YELLING AND SCREAMING, AND STRUGGLING TO UN HOOK MYSELF BEFORE THE FARMER SEEN ME,THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AROUND, RICKY COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING, AS HE TOO TRIED TO HELP ME DOWN(I WAS ONLY ABOUT A FOOT OFF THE GROUND) FINALY MY PANTS RIPPED THE REST OF THE WAY OFF,AND I FELL TO THE GROUND, GOT UP HOPPED BACK OVER THE FENCE, AND RAN TO THE HOUSE CRYING AND YELLING AND TRYING TO HOLD WHAT WAS LEFT OF MY PANTS TOGETHER TRYING TO COVER MY BUTT ALONG THE WAY, WHEN I GOT TO THE HOUSE, I TOLD MARIE(MY AUNT) WHAT HAPPENED, AND SHE TRIED AS HARD AS SHE COULD TO KEEP FROM LAUGHING, SHE TOO FEEL OUT LAUGHING, SHE PUT SOME BANDAIDS AND ANTICEPTIC ON MY BUTT(SCRATCHES), AND TRIED TO SCOLD ME FOR JUMPING THE FENCE, BUT SHE COULDNT KEEP IT TOGETHER ,SHE TOLD MY UNCLE ABOUT IT WHEN HE GOT HOME FROM WORK, AND AS HARD AS HE TRIED TO LECTURE ME ABOUT THE FENCE TOO , HE COULD NOT HOLD IT TOGETHER EITHER.I THINK RICKY LAUGHED FOR THREE DAYS ABOUT THAT INCIDENT, I DID TOO AFTER AWHILE.AND THATS ONE DAY ILL NEVER FORGET.
