Song Ji Seon

May 23, 2011

This site is dedicated to Song Ji Seon.
A South Korean TV presenter leaped from the 19th floor of her apartment building in Seoul and died in an apparent case of suicide.

Song Ji-seon, 30, worked as announcer on a baseball program on MBC Sports Plus. Her death reportedly stemmed from her personal problems including a baseball player’s denial of their love affair.

The announcer jumped through the window of her apartment at about 1:46 PM on May 23. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

About two weeks before her death, Song tweeted her plans to end her life including jumping and hanging herself.

"Please give me strength if you can’t take me. It is so painful. I took three sleeping pills,” and “God, please help me. I was going to jump but was frightened. I was to hang myself but it hurt. I said good-bye to the world through the rain. Please make me rest in peace,” she tweeted, according to the Korea Times.

Song’s life was further complicated when she said she had a relationship with 23-year-old Korean baseball player Im Tae Hoon for one year.

Korean team Doosan Bears, of which Im is a pitcher, denied that the two had a relationship.

A day before she committed suicide, Song told a Korean news site that she regretted posting her thoughts on Twitter.

"I thought that Twitter is my personal space, so I regret to write what’s in my mind on it. I didn't know this problem would be a big issue and how to deal it,” Song said.

According to Korean media, on the day of her suicide, the TV sports program was scheduled to announce Song’s termination from the program because of her admission of her relationship with the baseball player and the ensuing scandal.
