Memorial
This site is dedicated to Rudolph Montanez.

On January 25, 2014, my brother Rudy boarded his last ship and sailed out to eternity. A Navy Veteran whom served his country proudly. My brother never married nor had children, but he loved his family and friends.

I remember growing up together. I've seen my brother happy, angry and sad. We played sports morning to night; football, baseball, soccer and boxing\wrestling. My brother could climb the tallest trees, run fast and swim like a fish. Rudy, we Love you brother and will always miss you.

Love you
Tony Montanez

Like so many other family and friends, I find myself in disbelief as I process the loss of my dear friend Rudy. I have been at such a loss for words, which if Rudy were here, would make him laugh hysterically, because he knows how much I like to talk. Still, I find myself praying, searching and wondering how to form the words to express just what Rudy meant in my life.

Unlike many others, raised with Rudy, we met in High School. I did not attend River City, rather went to Bishop Manogue High School. I was introduced to Rudy by a mutual group of friends. Rudy was not only social, but had a very charismatic personality. Yes, I know you know exactly what I mean! If his smile did not capture you, then he would turn on the Rudy Montanez charm. Either way, he had a way of making you feel welcome and part of the group. We had many good times hanging out with friends.

After High School, Our friendship continued to grow. We shared our hopes, dreams and goals for the future with each other. As many young adults, we had so many ideas of what exactly our futures would hold. But one thing was clear to Rudy, he was a people person. He knew then, that no matter where his life took him, he would best suited working with people, serving people.

Rudy in his Navy Career, like others in his immediate family, did just that. Served us all proudly. Served his country. I lost touch with Rudy following his enlistment. But never lost the strong friendship that we both knew existed between us. A couple of years ago, with the assistance of Face Book, we found each other again. Sure, time had passed. However, when we began talking again, it was as if no time had passed at all. It was the same comfortable conversations that we had had all along.

We had many opportunities, along with friends, to enjoy our friendship again. Yes, Rudy had been through some recent life situations that he was working through, but all the while was appreciative of our reconnection as friends. He shared his pride in his family, his Navy Career, and his hopes for completing his education through the use of the GI Bill. He may have seemed distant to many as of late, but I am truly blessed that in our friendship, he found comfort, companionship, laughter and a place where he belonged.

Rudy, you will never really know how much you meant to me in my life. Although very recently we had the opportunity to share that information with each other. Yet even in sharing how we felt for each other, both in high school and college, an most definitely today, you still may not truly know. My dear friend Rudy, it was you, at a time when I was so very young, and naive, that showed me and allowed me to feel love. As I think back to that time we shared, it stands out, because it set the bar for my ability as a young woman to truly know how and what love meant to me. That, my friend was the best blessing I received from you in my life. I have no doubt that you knew that I felt the same toward you. Rudy, you will always have a special place in my heart! I will miss you dearly, and remember you fondly, forever.

May you rest now in God's perfect peace!

All my love & friendship,
Maria Maes Brown
