I will never forget Robert's energy and passion, and I know somewhere in this universe he's putting it to good use as he always did. I recall one point at SIGGRAPH he actually took his scooter onto the highway to get to a party, and that really summed him up. Fearless, and willing to go to any length to get what he wanted.

Robert, you are missed.

The SIGGRAPH Guerilla Studio will never be the same. Robert brought so much energy & enthusiasm with him, sharing his knowledge and curiosity freely with all those around him. His love of life and the genuine joy he found in sharing ideas with people was palpable, and enriched the experience of all those who interacted with him. I've never known anyone who could consistently laugh in the face of extreme hardship and come out the other end with everyone laughing with him. Words are not enough to express how very much he will be missed.

Robert had the greatest spirit of anyone that I've known. The words helping, learning, and teaching are the ones that I immediately think of when I think of him.

Robert is a role model for all who knew him. Not for how he persevered against physical problems, but for how he treated and worked with those around him. He truly liked people and it was impossible not to see that. He showed those around him the wonder and beauty that are often in plane sight, but are just as often overlooked. His excitement with life was contagious (even to this old cynic).

Our SIGGRAPH family has just lost a large part of our collective soul with Robert's passing. We will miss him. I know that I do.

One of the more memorable stories takes place in LA during Siggraph 2004. All of us were headed to a get together at a local art studio in the late evening. We were all happy to load up Robert's scooter and have Robert ride with us, but Robert preferred to drive himself to the event (a good couple of miles away). We were all a bit worried and suprised that anyone would voluntarily want to go through a pretty hairy part of town alone (and on a wheelchair scooter). We went ahead and waited and waited and were relieved to see him arrive at the event cruising around the corner into the parking lot on the back streets of downtown LA.

Roberts response to our concern was simple. He felt at ease in those parts of town, enjoyed spending time with people of all walks of life, and appreciated the experience of seeing up close the different parts of town, especially those where people are faced with serious adversity and hardship.

It was an continues to be a very inspirational story for me. Thank you Robert!
