Robert was a well known video and installation artist. He lived in Tempe, AZ with his brother Matthew. Robert received his undergraduate degree in Intermedia Art from ASU and was pursuing a Master of Fine Arts Degree also at ASU. His speciality was video art and installation and exhibited his work frequently at First Friday events in Phoenix, AZ. Robert was also known for his video production work for many concert and rave events and enjoyed that work very much.

Robert shared his talents with many. For many years, he brought his skills, talents, and creativity to assist in artworks with Muriel Magenta and other artists at ASU. Robert also put tremedous effort into attending Siggraph and working with a group of friends to produce the Guerilla Studio, a venue dedicated to sharing technologies, skills, and creativity with others.

To say that Robert suffered from a genetic degerative muscular / skeletal disease is just a very small part of Robert's story. In fact, despite his condition which significantly impacted his life and mobility, he carried himself with an attitude of generosity, good spirit, humor, kindness, and a unique outlook on life.

You didn't have to know Robert Berg long to be inspired and touched by his generosity, love, creativity, and enduring spirit. His type is a special kind and he will be missed.

I will never forget Robert's energy and passion, and I know somewhere in this universe he's putting it to good use as he always did. I recall one point at SIGGRAPH he actually took his scooter onto the highway to get to a party, and that really summed him up. Fearless, and willing to go to any length to get what he wanted.

Robert, you are missed.

The SIGGRAPH Guerilla Studio will never be the same. Robert brought so much energy & enthusiasm with him, sharing his knowledge and curiosity freely with all those around him. His love of life and the genuine joy he found in sharing ideas with people was palpable, and enriched the experience of all those who interacted with him. I've never known anyone who could consistently laugh in the face of extreme hardship and come out the other end with everyone laughing with him. Words are not enough to express how very much he will be missed.

Robert had the greatest spirit of anyone that I've known. The words helping, learning, and teaching are the ones that I immediately think of when I think of him.

Robert is a role model for all who knew him. Not for how he persevered against physical problems, but for how he treated and worked with those around him. He truly liked people and it was impossible not to see that. He showed those around him the wonder and beauty that are often in plane sight, but are just as often overlooked. His excitement with life was contagious (even to this old cynic).

Our SIGGRAPH family has just lost a large part of our collective soul with Robert's passing. We will miss him. I know that I do.
