I remember the first time I met Rita was at the ranch. Helen (Crust) & Rita & I were up there in April, and it was hot. There was Rita, sunbathing in the nude, lying on the picnic table. I thought here is a real uninhibited lady and I knew we would become great friends.
The day we tried to walk up the hill at the ranch after Helen had passed we were having a very hard time getting going. All of a sudden a big gust of wind came and gave us a push. Rita turned to me and said there's our friend Helen giving us a push, and up we went.
David & I always looked forward to John & Rita coming to Palm Springs to stay with us. I loved the way she enjoyed being at the pool & swimming her laps. We will miss your beautiful smile & your warm friendship.

Dedication of Grave
April 20, 2010

I have had many people come up to me during the last two weeks with their condolences and memories of Rita and a common remembrance, in addition to her anal retentive tendencies, is the love that she had for everyone. Her granddaughters writings all included love. Alaura even referred to her love as “infinite”.
“Your example of judging no one and caring for everyone will carry with us till we meet again.” Carl and Pat Selee
“She always put a positive spin on things and for that, I will always love her.” Mario Loya
Brenda has asked me to read this poem that she has added to Rita’s online Memorial:
"A SISTER'S LOVE"
A sister's love is special in oh so many ways
Heaven & Earth stretch between us and minutes turn to days.
We've shared so much as children the tears, the joys, the pain
A lifetime spent together those memories still remain.
In times gone by we've pondered the paths our lives have taken
Knowing that in spite of this our sister love unshaken.
A sister's love is special in ways that are unspoken
Still that binding force exists our sister love unbroken.
My sister Rita wasn't just a sibling she is and always will be a part of my world. To have a sister doesn't make you special, to have a sister like Rita is SPECIAL!!! Butch & I look forward to seeing you again. Things on earth will never be the same without you. Love you Rita!!!

While we mourn the loss of Rita here I know there are many others rejoicing to meet her behind the veil. She is still Rita and is still sharing that infinite love with those that she missed here on earth. Rita has been exalted to a greater and more glorious work and that makes her departure from our presence a gift to others that need her at this time. She is not far from us. She knows and understands, even better, our thoughts, feelings, and motions. She still worries about us and is closer than you think.
As I mentioned at the service, the timing may not be right for us but it was right for Rita and the Lord. I know she is still concerned for each and every one of us and looks forward to the day that we come through that veil and are reunited with her.
Christy, Stephanie, Kassi, Alaura, Kyli, and Becca-I pray every day that you will someday have the desire to study the Gospel, get to know your Heavenly Father, your brother Jesus Christ, and familiarize yourself with the great Plan of Salvation that They have given us.
Over 1900 years ago a Prophet of the Lord wrote down this revelation:
11 Now, concerning the astate of the soul between bdeath and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are ctaken dhome to that God who gave them life.
12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of ahappiness, which is called bparadise, a state of rest, a state of cpeace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.
(Alma 40:11 & 12)
There is so much more that Heavenly Father has in store for us even after the resurrection. Knowledge and faith of these things will bring so much happiness in to your lives and will make our current problems seem almost nonexistent
At this time I would like to dedicate this grave. Will you join me in prayer?
Heavenly Father.
By the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood I Dedicate and consecrate this burial plot as the resting place for the body of Rita Mae Hass Sutton Dickinson.
This resting place shall be hallowed and protected until the Resurrection when the body and spirit will be reunited in its proper and perfect frame.
I ask the Lord to comfort her family and friends and let us look forward to the day when we will be reunited
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

I think Rita may have been a little OCD as she got older, so I used to tell her that I would pee in the sink as to not dirty the toilet! It still hasn't really sunk in that she has past, but I really do think that Helen greeted her at her final destination. Rita will be missed for many things. But she will be around forever as long as we always talk about her and never forget her! She was and IS loved and so are all those people connected to her. PLEASE rest in peace, But I sure hope you are having fun, wherever you are....

People always ask me why I am always smiling and cheerful. I tell them that the reason is that I was raised with humor. Both sides of my family. Always laughing. Always good times. My Aunt Julia on my mom's side lived in Patterson California. We were very close, like sister and brother, so I spent a great deal of time with her. Two good friends of my aunt's were Marge Azevedo and Rita. The laughter continued to a high degree whenever those two visited my aunt. Always a good time. Always fun. Always upbeat. Now my mom, my Aunt Julia, Marge, and Rita are all gone. My hope is that they have all met somewhere and are laughing the day away like they used to. I miss them all. Tom

"Rita babysat me while living across the street from the wonderful Hass family. She lovingly tolerated my ADD hyperactive youth. Rita would often tell me she loved me. I'll never forget her loving spirit towards a child who felt unwanted."
