"One of my favorite stories with Rick was one where we were golfing and both having a particulary poor round (lots of slices into nearby houses). I sliced one into a back patio and it hit a window. The homeowners came out and started yelling, "F-ING GOLFERS!" repeatedly. We always laughed about that one together and would yell those words to each other at random times for years afterwards.

I will remember Rick as someone who always did the things no one else wanted to do - always taking one for the team and never complaining. Rick was always so generous with whatever he had to give.

I am proud to say Rick was my friend.

"There are not too many people in my life that I feel comfortable calling multiple times in one day for even the silliest things. Rick, you were a true friend to me and my family. You were like an older brother to me. I could always count on you for anything. It will be hard to not have you around to meet Brandon and I for last minute dinners or to meet for a cocktail anytime I needed someone to talk to. I will always cherish our dinners at the TREO and Sunday nights eating mona lisa and watching HBO. I will never forget you!

"I'll never forget when we were getting the Fleetwood ready to open in a really short time span and how hard everyone worked, but we all worked together as a team and it was fun work. Rick would be doing some electrical up above the ceiling in tight, hot quarters and come down sweating like crazy, never heard him complain. Then, we'd sit down, grab a beer and just enjoy our time. I will always remember Rick with a smile on my face and be grateful for the brief but memorable time we spent together. A good guy."

"Rick was truly one of the most kind hearted individuals I have ever met. I had the pleasure of meeting him several years ago and counted him as a friend ever since. Not only has he been an incredible supporter of my downtown reataurant establishments, without his engineering expertise, I would never have been able to transform my baby stroller tray business idea into an actual prototype. He created it with me a year ago and has been so supportive of its success ever since. I learned more from him than anyone else I have worked with on this project and i will miss his words of encouragement and sound advice. He was so talented and had a brilliant mind in addition to being such a charismatic and friendly guy. My family and I will miss him very much and our prayers go out to all that loved him too"

"I met Rick years ago while we were both shooting on the same Skeet League Team at SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports Association. You knew from the start that Rick was a great guy. He was very involved in the International Trap Program. Rick has shot trap with some of the best International trap shooters in the world. Rick and I were elected to the Board of Directors of SDSSA at the same time. Rick would show up at our board meetings with stories of his travels and his latest business ventures. He was always involved and ready to do what he could to make our Association better.
I remember one Friday night this past summer when I got a call at home from Rick. He asked me if I would be interested in two tickets to the Padres game. Are you kidding, Rick? One caveat; It was the day before the Grand Opening of Pacific Hotdogs. I would have to come down to the restaurant to pick them up. (I live in Ramona) When I got to the shop I couldn't thank him enough. All Rick wanted in return was to know I would enjoy the seats and have a great time.
I'll miss Rick and think of him often. Rick Matulich was a GOOD MAN and will be missed by everyone that knew him."

"I will always remember Rick as a beautiful person with a huge heart. He was like family to me. One of my favorite memories with Rick was when I had first met him in Tahoe he took Stacy and I off roading. The truck got stuck at the top of a mountain. Oops... "Rick will always be remembered for the way he carried himself while on this earth. His smile was reflective of the genuine kindness and compassion he had for others. Rick knew how to have a good time and over the past few years we've had had many of them together. I never liked baseball much but some of my favorite memories of Rick were downtown and at the Padre baseball games. We would often miss the game on PetCo field but always made the most of our time out. Through the good and the bad what Rick never missed was a chance to touch our lives. Rick I know I am not alone in feeling like your time here was too short and you will sincerely be missed.

"Rick Matulich was our friend.

I am reminded every day how blessed I am to have such a wonderful group of friends here in San Diego. My friends are my family here. Rick was my friend. Rick was family.

He was one of my only friends old enough to be able to share what it was like to have seen Journey perform live when Steve Perry was still with the band. Rick and I shared a very special bond. A bond that will never be broken.

I define friendship by respect, loyalty and honesty. Rick was always respectful of me and the people around him. He was one of the most loyal friends I have ever known. He was always honest when it came to our friendship and our friends. I could not have asked for anything more from him and I can only hope that I gave him back the respect and loyalty he deserved from me.

I can best explain what he meant to me and how I will cherish him forever by sharing a simple experience. Two years ago I was hospitalized for 12 days after my appendix ruptured. Rick visited me EVERY SINGLE day in the hospital. I will never forget that and I have thanked him many times. I promise to keep the memory of my friend Rick in my heart and visit him every day. Rick was my friend. Rick was OUR friend.
