Memorial
Patricia (Patti) Verjean LANG passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA, on April 9, 2011, following a year-long battle against cancer. Patti was born June 1, 1940, at her parent’s home in Greenwood, WI. She grew up in Marshfield and attended the local schools, participating in many of the formal and informal club activities, and served as the Secretary/Treasurer of her senior class. She graduated from Marshfield (WI) Senior High School in 1958, moved to Minneapolis shortly after, taking a position at General Mills’ laboratories helping to develop new food products; a job she once described as “the best job ever”. During this period she also attended classes at the University of Minnesota, working toward a degree. Following a visit back to Marshfield in late 1962, she met up with former middle and high school classmate Ron Lang which was the start of a whole new adventure for her. Following a year of commuting between Minneapolis and Milwaukee, they married in Marshfield on November 9, 1963, after which she moved to Milwaukee, WI, accepting a secretarial position with a General Electric engineering group. It was then on to Madison, WI to allow Ron to complete his engineering degree at the University of Wisconsin. Patti continued working with GE in Madison up until 1971 when son Chris was born.
In 1972 the family moved to Jackson, MI. With the birth of their daughter Michele in 1974, Patti was now well on her way to devoting the rest of her life to raising her family, volunteering for many years as a room mother at school, leading a Girl Scout troop, and teaching Sunday school. She also loved watching and attending Green Bay Packer games and really enjoyed her two recent visits to the stadium and museum in Green Bay. In 1992 a move was made to Ann Arbor, MI which initiated the start of her unwavering interest in the football programs at both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. She attended many games over the years and rarely missed either on television. Patti also had a love for birds and dogs, feeding song birds year around and having a dog no matter what the circumstances may have been. Her two favorite dogs were a Doberman named Rosie and most recently Georgie, a mixed breed lapdog.

Patti loved to travel. Over the years, she was able to travel to just about all of the states, always with her family, and always by auto as she was not a ‘frequent flyer’ by any stretch of the imagination. She criss-crossed the USA and saw most all of what it had to offer from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico and into Canada.
In October, 2010, she felt a strong motivation to be closer to her children and grandchildren, resulting in a move to Woodinville, WA, a suburb of Seattle. She continued out-patient treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance through early April when she chose to be cared for by the Evergreen Hospice organization, and spiritually, by the Evergreen Chaplin Services.

Patti will be greatly missed by her family and friends for her love of life and her deep compassion for others. One of her favorite sayings was” we are just little specks in the universe”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldred (Al) and Marian Berg, and her brother Alan (Bucky) Berg.

She is survived by her loving family, husband, Ron, son Chris, daughter Michele and husband Jamie, and her two grandchildren, Zoe and Phoebe, an aunt, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. At her request, no funeral is planned; however, a “Celebration of Life” reception will take place in Marshfield on Saturday, May 7, between 3 and 6 PM at the Clearwaters Hotel and Convention Center (715) 387-1761. Remembrances may be made in her name to the Humane Society of the United States, any Veterans’ organization or any Hospice organization.
