This site is dedicated to Nicolaos "Nick" Zaoutsos, who passed away peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland on Friday, February 20th, 2009. He was 66 years old. Loving husband of 22 years of the late Joan Zaoutsos. Beloved father of Heather and her husband Tray, Teresa and her husband Sean, John, and Arthur. Proud grandfather of Christopher and Timothy. Survived by his brother George Zaoutsos. Son of the late Athanasios and Elli Zaoutsos. Nick was born on May 14, 1942. He proudly served in the Greek Merchant Marines, after which he began his career in the dry cleaning profession here in the United States. Special thanks to the caring staff at Holy Cross.

A viewing will be held at the Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD 20901 on Monday, February 23rd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 24th at 11:00am, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, also in Silver Spring, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Dad's favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Your donation can also be taken over the telephone (800-873-6983) with a credit card, or you can mail it to St. Jude’s at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

"Nick was actually my mother's cousin - his father Arthur was my grandmother's younger brother - but he was much closer in age to me. I chose the flag icon, because he was so proud to become an American. He lived a very interesting life, and I admired how hard he had worked to make that life for his family and himself. I also admired how much he loved his family. Like a typical Greek, he was never at a loss for words, and while I didn't always agree with his opinions, we had some great discussions. You're with Joan and with God, now, Nick, smiling down on us. Rest in peace.

" I was so glad to hear from Heather that her dad, Nick, had asked Jesus to be his Savior. I know that this is keeping her now; knowing that in leaving his burden of sin at the cross, he can face eternity with confidence and get to see his Savior face to face and thank Him for His sacrifice.
It is always hard to loose a loved one, but to know that he is in a far better place, brings joy and peace that one day you can join him there. Theresa and Heather, I am praying for you both as you will miss having your Dad around.

Nick would always treat you with respect and love.He would say to us I know you all love me.He would call and talk about how beautiful the kids are and tell me to come down. He was so proud of all his family.

One memory that makes me smile every time I think of it was when dad told me that he nicknamed me Sunshine because when my mom passed away I tried to comfort him, and he felt I understood the sorrow and the loss he was feeling. He said every day he looked to me as a source of light and a reason to go on, and so he called me Sunshine.
I love you dad and will miss you very much.
