Mikhail Khlovenovich Lapidus, 87, of Leawood KS passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Beloved father, grandfather, husband, great-grandfather, friend, professor, WWII veteran, Doctor of Economics, revered economist and one of the world’s leading specialists on Russian banking, he touched the lives of
his family, friends and students and influenced society with his research.

Prof. Lapidus was born in Belorussia on August 1, 1924. He is the author of dozens of books, hundreds of publications in academic journals, and with his guidance, over 40 doctoral candidates have successfully defended their dissertations. His spent the majority of his remarkable career as a professor at the St. Petersburg State University ofEconomics and Finance.
He is the recipient of dozens of medals of honor for his military service during WWII.

Professor Lapidus will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity and love by his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, and students.
