It pains me when a noble man of such is taken away by the hands of death, we need him than heaven does..But God knows the best. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.Amen.

All,
I want to take the time to thank everyone for the kind words said about my father. It has been the HARDEST time of our life without the head of our family, but we are holding strong as a family. I am posting so late because I did not have the courage to read this page. Looking at the comments that people are leaving would make my loss real. I have gained some strength and wanted to share some things. The man that you all know, or know now is exactly as everyone has said. He was a gentle giant. My father had one of the deepest voices I have ever heard, but the things that he said were never hateful, rude, or just plain mean. If I had to think of one bad quality that my father possessed, I could not name one. He loved his God, his family, his friends, and his country. My father never yelled at any of us, other than when we were in another room, he would shout our name for someone to help him with the computer (the countless emails he loved to read). Also, as many have said before, my father is one of the smartest people I have ever met in my life. He could learn anything. We (his family) benefitted in that he could help us with almost any homework, and if it was something he did not know, he made it a point to learn it so that he could help, or just because he was a man who enjoyed learning and teaching. His students also loved him. In recent years, I have come to think of my father as one of my best friends, I could talk to him about anything. He was always there to listen, offer advice, or just brighten a day that was going bad. People may not know that my dad was very comedic, even when people were mad or upset; he would say something to make you smile and forget your discontent. In closing, even though I am saddened by the loss of my father, I take comfort in the belief that God needed him more. I am also sure that I will see him again someday and the pain I feel of his loss will be gone and we will part no more. I will forever hold my daddy in my heart and his memory in my mind. I know he sees all of us and he is watching down from Heaven. I love you daddy, see you later.

Dear Moses:

On February 26, 2009, you invited me to a Bini function taking place on April 10 - 12, 2009 in Houston, TX. But you did not tell me you would not be around to attend the event which I know was very dear to your heart. For almost 5 decades of our friendship, since our first encounter at Stocker House, Zik's Academy, Sapele, you have maintained an exemplary character and a high level of intellect that only very few individuals can replicate. In your last e-mail to me you informed me that all your five children were in the universities. You declared: "All my family and I have tried to do is to set a foundation that would guarantee continued intellectual existence. We firmly believe that education is the great equalizer and we are bent on making sure that we take advantage of the various opportunity available to us here." That quest for education which I noticed in you in 1961 has been passed on to your children.

Moses, you left us too soon. You left us at a time that your guidance was most needed. But God knows best. For Him, you have fulfilled the tasks He gave you on Earth. We will forever mourn this irreparable loss. A Dear friend you were, and a dear friend you will always remain to those of us privileged to know you and to work with you. We pray for God to grant your lovely wife, Esther, and your children, Osariemen, Igbovomwan, Nosamudiana, Omoghan, and Isoken, the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.

Rest in perfect peace, Moses, until we meet again to part no more.

Dear Osariemen, Igbovomwan, Nosamudiana, Omoghan, and Isoken,

Please accept my most heartfelt condolence. I can certainly empathize with what you must be going through right now- since I also lost my dad when he was relatively young. My one advice is this: take solace in the outpouring of love from the community. Your father was greatly admired and respected by so many people because of his: integrity, honesty, loyalty, generosity, dignity, calmness and uncanny ability to always rise above the fray. He will be sorely missed and no one can miss him more than you guys will. The grieving process is a long one, but there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. When my father died, I didn't think I will be able to smile again, many years later, I remember my dad and think of him with a smile and I always carry him around in my heart and he remains immortalized in his enduring legacy.
I will be happy to share my grieving experience with you if you so desire.
Your dad impacted my life positively and I will also cherish the lessons I learnt from him.

You are in my prayers. Please take good care of your mom.

Best Wishes

My family and I are saddened by the sudden death of Professor Moses Osaghae. Those of us who had the opportunity to interact with late Professor Osaghae can testify that he was a man of peace who bridged the differences between people with his soft-spoken words and wisdom. When we talked last Saturday, little did I know that will be last our discussion. He will be missed. I pray that the Almighty God grants the family the fortitude to bear this loss.

What am I hearing? Are you sure of what you just wrote above? Somebody might be playing some April Fool in advance here. No, no. This cannot be true.
Dr. Moses Osaghae whom I normally refer to as Asoro Moses because of his untiring debate in 2004 between the Edos and the Yorubas about the origin of ODUDUWA.
He was relentless. He took on the Yorubas and try to put some missing links of history as an elderly man who knew his onions very well hence I nicknamed him Asoro Moses after Asoro the warrior who led the Edo resistance against the British soldier in 1897
He called me when he came to Seattle in 2005 or 2006 for the Edo Annual Convention. He wrote me many private mails and called me asking me to let go of my differences with Bolaji Aluko. He said that if I come to know Bolaji as a person, I will change my mind because he is a very, very sweet guy.
He wasn't happy about me saying that Bolaji HATE Igbos and he will want me to stop saying so because it is too strong of a word. He jokingly told me never to raise my voice on NOWA because that is like trying to fight my maternal brother or else he will be the one to come to Seattle and send me back home.
Jesus Christ, I am speechless. I just can’t hold myself. This touched me to the bone. This is like the death of my brother in 2006.
What happened? Was he sick all this time? Is it an accident? Too many questions but it is too late either way. He wrote just last week to the forum.
I am not going to work in memory of my Dear friend Dr. Moses Osaghae (aka Asoro Moses as I always call him.
Ukwuani people of Delta State will say Nnooo Onye-Oma meaning bye a nice fellow. I say here Nnooo my good friend Dr. Moses Osaghae.

Peoples of Nigeria:

Often times in this cyber forum, we meet folks and interact without the benefit of really knowing them. One such fellow that I interacted with, without really knowing, was Professor Moses Osaghae. However, it was our mutual brother, Wilson Iguade, that played the role of mediator then on the issue of nominations for Naijapolitics Man of the year.

Professor Moses Osaghae rightfully was a peace loving man who recognized a fault line once an objection was raised. The issue, to him, was more important than the personalilties and so on a man-to-man basis, we ended up as acclaimed BROTHERS seeking the common good of Niger Delta and Nigeria! He was President of Umagbae World Association and a member of many organizations for the good of society.

It is, therefore, proper when I join to say: WE have sadly lost another important brother.

Chei, what is this life? Here today and gone tomorrow, too soon, too short, too sudden!

May God accept Brother Moses Osaghae in his bossom and comfort his family and friends as we try to find meaning to his well defined live on earth.

I shall miss my OGA! My sincere condolence to the members of Umughae and greater Nigeria family.

I am extremely saddened to hear of the sudden home going of our beloved brother.

We can only take solace in the presence of mind and wisdom he brought to all issues pertaining to Edo nation. Regardless, this will not make that feeling of void impossible to fill.

May the Lord grant his immediate family and everyone in this forum the fortitude to bear our collective loss.

Airiagbon n’anaiyeowa “the inevitability of death” being the theme of a condolence message by the Benin National Congress to the Family and committee of Friends of late Dr. Osaghae.

It is with a deep sense of shock and grief that we received the news of the sudden death of Dr. Osaghae who was until his death the President of one of Benin most cherished socio-cultural organization-Umaigbae. We are deeply devastated because, at a time the 30th anniversary of His Majesty the Oba of Benin is around the corner, when we taught that he will be in attendance or send his memorial speech.
We take solace in his immortal intellectual and cultural contributions to the overall upliftment of his fatherland and his place of aboard. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

Uncle Moses. I know that I have to release you and I must not tie you down with my tears but it is hard to let you go just so soon. I know you must travel alone because you have so many things to see and do. I am thankful for the years that I have you as my uncle. You gave me so much joy, you made me proud of your accomplishments, you looked for the best in others, in your sight, I can never do wrong. How soon the big wind blew and took you away from those that loved you. The good Lord knows best but I miss you. Good nite uncle Moses till we meet again. Katie Ogiamien Salami

As the saying goes, 'death is inevitable'
The sad news got to me via his cousin, Dr Victor Aikhionbare about an hour after he was pronounced dead at the hospital on Wednesday. To me, it was like as if he should not have mentioned it all... A joke? No....But alas!..... it real.
I am finding it hard to believe that the Moses I grew up with since the age 14 has left me. Moses was good and very pleasant to be with. He witnessed great things that happened to me and Late Sonny Okosun before I left for the U.S in 1970. He was one of the few privileged friends I had that enjoyed our musical compositions before they were produced. Moses was the first person I told that I will one day become a lawyer. It is clear to those who knew us at the time that we had exciting moments and good old days of secondary school life together as he lived almost adjacent to my family home at Sakpoba Road, Benin City.
We continued the relationship throughout the 70s. I recall when his wife stayed briefly with us when I was a law student in California before joining him in Texas in the late 1970s.
May only PAIN before this time is that we could not get together again in Benin to reflect on the good old days....Moses will forever be remembered.

For now, I will continue to pray that the good Lord bless his soul and provide his family with the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May the soul of Dr Moses Osaghae rest in perfect peace.(Amen)
