Miguel was born on the 19th of June 1959 in Lagunillas, Venezuela, along Lake Maracaibo. He cherished the foundation and the early life lessons he received in Venezuela and would often tell his friends about the warmth, the laughter and the sacrifice that his family experienced growing up. All of those moments and all of those steps in his early years led him to the greatest adventure of his life.

His first stop was a short stay in Philadelphia. He has said that that brief period of his life was the springboard to a bigger odyssey ahead as he longed for a less-hectic college experience. He earned a scholarship to attend the University of Oklahoma, a life experience that was far from what he expected. He shared stories about arriving on that football crazed campus in the 80’s with the flowing long hair that reminded some of Diego Maradona. Miguel loved knew how to celebrate life and knew how to bring a variety of people from different life experiences into his orbit. He was beguiling with his wit and easy with his laugh. When asked about his early days on campus at the University of Oklahoma, he would freely share stories – sometimes profound and sometimes profane – of the outsider finding a way inside.

All of those moments and all of those steps. Yet we all know that each step was well marked and well worn. Because they all lead up to meeting Alba.

He said frequently, Alba is his universe. She is the air he breathed deeply every day. Everything he did professionally and personally was to celebrate their union. From their first words where he connected with her about their roots in Venezuela, Miguel knew down to his DNA that this woman moved him to be a better man. No matter how long he thought it would take, no matter what he thought he would have to do, he knew that he would crawl on rocks to move heaven and earth one teaspoon at a time to find a way to share his life with her. They nurtured their friendship till it blossomed into love. In quieter moments, he would say that she saved him from himself so that they could build a greater circle of life together.

As the years moved on and greater opportunities arose, Miguel and Alba moved to California.

Miguel funded many businesses in the advertising and marketing fields, starting his long career in the industry in 1987 with La Opinion, the largest Spanish newspaper in the country. In 1992 he founded the OC Excelsior newspaper which is still being published to this day by the Orange County Register and is a business model for Spanish language newspapers.

It was during this time that he got involved with national and international publications and founded Hispanic Multi-Media Print & Marketing (Hispanic MPM) which was dedicated to the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American Market. During his career he worked with organizations such as Newsweek, Motor Trend, Vogue and the last few years with Televisa Publishing.

Miguel earned his Bachelors degree in Marketing with a minor in management from the University of Oklahoma and completed courses on sales, team building, and leadership at Pepperdine University along with other professional seminars. He was an avid tennis fan and player and shared his passion for sport with his family.

All of those moments and all of those steps. What matters most to many of us about our good fortune to know Miguel Angel Sanchez is that every story, every adventure and sometimes every misadventure ended in a laugh, Miguelito always had an easy smile, a kind word and a big baritone laugh to share with his massive universe of family, friends and acquaintances.

He loved his wife and his children dearly. They are his everything. He loved to play and to watch tennis and golf. He loved good scotch and good food. And most of all, he loved to bring people together to share great times, great stories and to pay it forward to those who follow us. The secret to his life…what will him make him missed most of all for all of us who love him…is that he found the secret formula to make us all feel like we were on the inside. With him. Laughing too.

His legacy will live on through his wonderful wife and their three children who live in Southern California.

I never had the opportunity to fully thank you for sharing your friendship and family over these past years. In an increasingly busy and challenging world, it was a gift to have a friend who had his priorities in order and was trustworthy to his core. Rest well my friend and know that your legacy on this earth lives on as I can see it in the smile of your family and friends as we spoke of you these past days.
Un abrazo,
Charley Harrison

Con tu inesperada partida, das un prospecto diferente a esta etapa de mi vida, ratificandome que solamente es cuestion de tiempo nuestra ausencia y que debemos mejorar nuestras relaciones interpersonales mientras el destino lo permita.
