in Loving Memory of Luis Jarrin 1964-2016

When I come to the end of the
road and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free!
Miss me a little, but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once
shared, miss me but let me go.
For this journey we all must take,
and each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master plan,
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely
and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know,
and bury your sorrows
in doing good deeds.
Miss me much, but let me go.

Remembering Luis

Helen Keller once said, “the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor even touched, but just felt in the heart.” Those words resonate as we remember Luis Jarrin, a son, a loving husband, a father, and a friend to all. You may not have always had the chance to catch up with Luis over the past few years as he was a quiet man, who kept to himself, and suffered quietly as his health declined in the last few years, but he was never absent from our thoughts and our hearts; and he was never missing from our memories and our prayers.

Luis Jarrin was a caring, loving, kind-hearted man who adored his family and friends. He was a smart, hard-working, ambitious man who loved to help people. He was encouraging, and supportive to all who knew him and was passionate about fitness and health.

Luis was born on October 10, 1964 in Guayaquil, Ecuador and grew up as an only child in Bronx, NY before moving to Florida with his parents. He attended St. Raymond’s High School and worked hard in school successfully becoming bilingual and had a great love for racquetball and sports. After school, Luis worked for the NYC Board of Education in the Office of Nutrition Services, where he helped to coordinate school lunches for countless children. He joined the military and proudly served his country in the Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal. He attended Craven Community College in Havelock, North Carolina where he studied corrections and criminal justice and John Jay College of Criminal Justice before receiving two certificates of accommodation at Camp Johnson as a diary clerk. He loved reading, drawing, writing and helping others whenever, and wherever possible.

He married the love of his life, and was a caring, loving husband for many years. He was an attentive, kind, affectionate father of two wonderful, talented, beautiful boys. He pursued a successful career in fitness; working as a personal trainer, where he helped countless clients to reach their personal goals towards better health. He had an entrepreneur spirit and dreamed of owning his own fitness centers across the country to help even more people.

Sadly, in his own life, Luis faced health complications over the past few years and suffered from acute respiratory failure and passed away in his sleep on May 26, 2016.

Luis was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all. He had a zest for life that was contagious and that spirit still lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved him best, particularly in his two beautiful boys, Michael and Andrew. He is reunited with his mother in Heaven and survived by his father and two sons.

Luis would not want us to grieve him, but instead to celebrate his life, so think of him every time you watch a sunset, or catch a glimpse of the stars at night for "perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven, where the love of our lost ones shine down, to let us know they are happy."

"Luis we can't believe you are gone. You had such a short life, but touched so many people in it. May God bless and hold you forever in his arms. We know you are never far dear friend."
