Leonard was an amazing man, son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend and the world is already different without him. Leonard didn’t like funerals – he always told me, “When I go, don’t put me in a box having people looking down at me with sadness. So this tribute won’t be your usual obituary.

Leonard always told you like it is – whether you liked to hear it or not. I loved that about him – his ability to be truthful and honest with everyone. If he couldn’t be himself then he didn’t want to be around you. He made friends with everyone – especially those who others wouldn’t dare go near. We would be driving somewhere and there was someone who was waving, saying hello to Lenny. I’d say, “You know that guy”, and he said, “Yeah, he’s really interesting to talk to and I’ve given him a ride a few times.” Now this was a guy who walked the streets talking to himself – but Leonard didn’t see it that way. He believed everyone deserved respect.

Leonard was often called “the hardest working man in Blue Mountain Lake”. He worked for 23 years at NYCTA in the track division. He’d come home from work and always had a project going on. In fact the morning of his accident, he was at Home Depot buying paint and looking at tile for the kitchen. He was known well at Home Depot since he was there almost every week looking in his favorite section – the “Oops Paint” area.

He loved his music – oldies but goodies, and his Basement – his man cave. Anyone who’s been at our home for a cookout would tell you how good his selection of music is. He also loved Tupac and Biggie – so you’d find some of that mixed in as well. Leonard was always working on “his basement” – adding little touches here and there. If you didn’t know where he was, just look in the basement.

Leonard loved his children. He was the father who was on every, and I mean every, school trip. The teachers loved him. On the few instances where I went on a trip, all I would hear about the whole time was how great Leonard was. We never used day care – Leonard made the choice to work nights so he could be there to take care of our children and allowed me to focus on my career.

Leonard and I met on a “Bingo Van” that he drove back and forth to Pennsylvania. I was 16 and he was 21 – yes a little scandalous! I remember telling my mom that he was only 18 when she asked how old he was. We dated for 5 years and were married June 10, 1984. We had 2 beautiful children, Marcus 25 and Courtney 21. He was the love of my life. Leonard wasn’t the kind of guy who showered you with gifts on those special days – he believed that you should give gifts just because. He’d often just come home and give me a gift – just because. He would show his love by doing things that most other husbands didn’t. It would be a snow storm, and Leonard would leave for work early and go to the parking lot where my car was parked and would clean my car off before I got there. I would get to my car and see it all cleaned off and knew instantly that my man had been there. I was the only person who could just get in my car and go. That’s how he showed his “public” affection – and it was so very special to me because I knew how much he loved me.

Leonard loved his family and friends. Always trying to keep in touch in his own way. He was a very good friend to many – too many to count, but I know he was special to each and every one of them.

We’ve lost an amazing man. I know he’s up there working on a project!

The family would like thank everyone for all of their support during this difficult time.

You showed me a lot of things,
I learned a lot I didn't know,
But you forgot to teach me one last thing
How to let you go,
I know you didn't mean to leave me,
Sometimes we have no choice,
I miss being your little brother,
Hearing my name called by your voice,
I wish I got to say "I Love You"
Before you were giving to the sky,
If god could grant me one last wish
I'd ask to say "Goodbye"
You always meant a lot to me,
I could never love you less,
I Know It's True When They Say
"HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST"

I would like to offer the Natt family my deepest condolences once again and to say that the memorial was a new and enlighting experience. I'm sure 'Natt' wanted it that way.Hold on to memories of the good times you shared and trust that the Lord called him home with purpose in mind.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance….

May God’s Word encourage your hearts as you reflect on your memories of Leonard the love of your life and father of your children.

It may not feel like it right now,
but God knows just how much you can bear.
We are here to support you in any way needed…..
