I was sad to read of Lee's passing in the Billings Gazette on Nov. 18. My family moved to Billings, Montana, in 1940. Lee lived across the street. We went through elementary and high school together. I lost track of her until acting as her mother's attorney in later years. Lee was a class act all of her life. She will be missed.

Our friendship started 12 years ago in Ensenada Mexico Marina only to find out we lived 1 mile away from each other in Scottsdale. We became known as the BOAT PEOPLE...we had the same model of boat and shared many dinners.laughs, story telling and wonderful celebrations of birthdays, anniveries,Lisa's wedding at the Sunroad Marina in San Diego. Lee and I both loved wearing black, finding great jewelry and enjoying lunch at the Prado to name some of our favorite things we shared. Lee would stop by our boat every morning on her way to work with a diet coke in one hand and slim-fast in the other. She would have a list of things we would try to do while we were there or plan future events when they came home to Scottsdale. I can see her smiling face as I write this and remember all those wonderful days like they were yesterday. I feel blessed that I can call Lee and Bob great friends and will always have a special place in my heart for her friendship and memories of all those special times we shared both in California and Arizona.

Russ and I have had so many good times with the Smith family that it's hard to pick a few. We enjoyed so many laughs, triumphs and tragedies as our kids grew up. Lisa was like an older sister to my boys..she clearly has inherited her mom's wonderful motherly spirit. The Smith home was always open to us for a visit when the family moved away, and we were always so happy when they would come back to visit. Lee had such warmth that we always connected with her despite interludes of time and distance..no matter how long it had been since we had seen one another the connection was always there. We will sorely miss those times, and will keep Lee and all of you in our special thoughts and prayers...she will never be far away. Judy and Russ Sumka

Lisa's mom was a lot like Lisa - gracious, kind, full of humor with a great sense of adventure and fun. We had funny times - the three of us - once visiting Lisa in Scottsdale for a lovely Thanksgiving with her folks, Lee and Lisa and I went shopping and I ... well, shopped. It was all Lee's fault, of course, but Lee thanked me for my significant contribution to the Arizona economy. In her illness, Lee continued to be sweet and loving and I appreciated the chance to spend time with her, too. Gracious, loving and dignified. I know she didn't want to leave and was sad about that. Yet, there she was courageous, kind to others, and having fun with the children until the very end. May all our lives be as blessed.

The Smiths' have been a part of my life my whole life. We've done school, jobs, weddings, babies, ups and downs together. Lee fought gracefully, just like she's done everything else in her life. She gave me Fluffernutter sandwiches and my best friend. I will always be grateful to her. I will miss her. Nancy Potts (Glen Ellyn, Il and Phoenix, Arizona)
