In Memorial of our beloved mother Okryun “Kim” Marrero. This site will be dedicated to her memory.

Mom transitioned on February 6th at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. She overcame all obstacles to build a legacy rooted in love, hard work, honesty, integrity, persistence and perseverance.

As a wife and stay at home mother with three children she ventured into the retail business starting with a grocery store and never looked back. Her instincts, fearlessness and tenacity helped her flourish as an entrepreneur. In turn, she helped all those she knew and loved.

Mom cherished her family and loved fiercely and that love extended to her pets as well. She loved birds and dogs. She watched Animal Planet any chance she had.

Her favorite titles were “Grandma”,"Mama" and “Dancing Grandma”. She was fortunate enough to forge bonds with the youngest members of our family.

She never really retired but in her later years she resumed her love of gardening and maintained a vegetable garden planting all of her favorite herbs and vegetables and collecting the seeds afterwards. She tilled her garden until the very end.

After moving to Connecticut she discovered casinos and was enamored by being entertained by the slot machines. The penny machine with the Cash Man was her favorite slot machine. No surprise there.

Mom was also a fierce competitor and a life learner. She excelled at every sport. While most take up sports for leisure she had to excel and compete. She loved tennis and in the late 80's she won the Women's NYC regional doubles tournament. She skied and loved to dance. She loved ballroom dancing. She mastered every style. After she mastered every dance, she even learned the dance over as a lead, typically the mans part of the dance, so there was no excuse not to dance with her. She was an excellent knitter. There was always a project in her bag.

She had two personal goals left. One was to go to Korea and learn how to knit from a master knitter and the other was to compete in a ballroom competition.

Even though she is gone her spirit will live on in each of us. We encourage you to light a candle and leave a memory.

I just wanted to give my condolences and a comforting scripture. John 5:28 reads- 'Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.' This speaks of a resurrection of our dead loved ones. You and the family will be in my prayers. For even more comforting information, please visit jw.org

I had the honor of meeting Ms.Marrero while working in NYC. Within the first few minutes of meeting her, I was instantly drawn to her bubbly personality and infectious laughter. I knew right away that I'd love being around her. Being from the West Coast, I was far from home and my own family, but Ms.Marerro always made me feel so at home and comfortable even in a city as big as Manhattan. She always had a warm word to share, was always trying to feed me goodies, and we would sit and talk for hours about Korea. Moreover, she would talk to me about her daughters and how proud she was of them and the legacy she built. She became such a dear part of my life, and even after moving back to the West Coast, I would often think of her and call every once in awhile. Whenever I was having a hard time at work, I would think of Ms.Marrero, and it would give me such strength and encouragement.

I miss you a lot, Ms.Marrero, but am comforted knowing that you are resting peacefully. Thank you for changing my life. You will always have a place in my heart!!!

Isaiah 33:24 "And no resident will say: “I am sick.” The people dwelling in the land will be pardoned for their error." Jehovah God has promised us a resurrection, at Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
