Air Crew and Passengers of Kanishka

June 23, 1985

Guest Book
My memory goes to... my life's first flight was in Kanishka.I had travelled from Mumbai to Frankfurt in November 1982, and even returned by same flight 181/182 in December. A little less than 3 years later it was to blast in mid air. My memories of that aeroplane are unique and unforgettable as I watched the entire plane with child's curiosity in the long journey. RIP 182 /329

I was only 10 years old when this tragedy happened and I did not know anyone who was on the flight but this week I started reading about the crash after hearing from someone. The more I read the more my heart bleeds is all I can say :(. I have not been able to sleep properly thinking about what the families must have gone through. So many kids, full families, pregnant ladies, babies, fathers, husbands . who did not deserve this tragic death... one of the saddest day... I cannot get over it.. Rest In Peace everyone who lost their lives that day .. my prayers for the families who had to endure this pain :(

Not sure what to say but I feel for you all and am sorry for your loss. I was born on this day and have nothing but good experiences with those I’ve known from India and elsewhere. I’m actually quite fortunate to have known amazing souls in this life. I’m praying for you all affected by this and know something good will come of this sadness. One way or another the first creator, the great Lord of the universe, the mother/father of all loves them and you. I wish you peace, love, and true balance in life.

Had a very vivid dream last night of my very good friend Noshir Vaid who perished in this disaster and it made me look up the air crash and hence found this site. I met Noshir whilst living in Iran and he became a good friend to me. When I moved back to England we continued to stay in touch and he often came up to visit myself (and later on my friend Diane)in Nottingham. Noshir was a wonderful man who I loved unconditionally as a friend. He is often in my thoughts and to this day I still miss his love of life, his laughter and fun........... Rest in Peace Noshir NEVER forgotten xxxxx

So sad for all the family's of these lost souls, I pray for these poor innocent people every year on 23june, its a day I'll never forget, I was a diver on board the Irish naval vessel at the scene, it had a huge impact on all of the crew. I was at the memorial for 30th anniversary and was struck at the dignity of the relatives there...very sad..RIP

juju, (shyla aurora)

You are not gone
you remain here beside me
Just in a different form
I Look for you in my heart
And there I do find you
in our love which forever lives on

In those moments when I feel alone
I Look for you in my thoughts
And there I will find you
in sweet memories that burn strong

Every time a tear
Forms in my eyes
I Look up to the heavens
And and know you are
Smiling down from God’s glorious skies
Although I’m sad without you
and wish that you were here ..

Within my heart your lovely smile
still shines bright and clear.
I treasure all those moments
of growing up with you ..
The secrets we would always share
the childish things we’d do.
And as the years passed quickly by
we grew closer still ..
I miss you, dearest Sister
and you know I always will.

Dear Sylvia, Sam and Sandeeta,

It's been 31 time flies but you all are remembered in our hearts forever. I was the most fortunate niece to have you Sylvia organize my 21st birthday a month before you left us. Sam, I cannot forget your kindness and Sandeeta, your cuteness. I still, to this day, treasure those fond memories and times together. Wish we could turn back time. Love you all. RIP.

Met them in Toronto, 1983, my mom's cousin Durga Das, his wife & their children. I was five and loved the time spent with them. I have seen first hand the agony Durga mama went through the rest of his life on losing the rest of his family in the crash. He died this year in Kolkata and hopefully united with his son, daughter and wife in afterlife. His son's body was never found. A special burial was given to an unclaimed/unreconizeable body, possibly his. May the family now rest in peace!

Whilst I never had the opportunity to know my Aunt, I have always been aware of how my aunty tragically lost her life aboard Air India Flight 182,and having conducted further research in to the matter have also found that her husband Sunil Shukla also died that day. I hope and I pray that all 329 people who lost their lives that day - including my Aunty, her husband and unborn baby are at peace and together with one another, resting a little easier knowing that justice has been done.

I was recently watching the 1982 Hindi movie in which Inder Thakur played a role. Was deeply moved to read he was the purser on board the ill-fated Air India flight no.181 together with his wife & child. He was also an actor & a well-known model.

This was one of the saddest days of my life, an anniversary that many will remember, with sadness at having lost a family member, a friend, or a colleague....a visit a year later to the AI memorial in 1986 in Ireland was sad, hard to believe, but also heartwarming at the warmth, and hospitality the locals gave us, on hearing that we (Helen Menzies, myself and our three kids) had lost so many friends in that tragedy. We planted a small flowering shrub there, and left with bitter sweet memories.....our thoughts are with all the families who lost someone.....

As Bir Grewal simply put it, Sam was great leader, and truely one who lived life with a great passion; I was fortunate to have done some great flights and postings with him. There were too many good friends on that fateful flight. I was in Frankfurt on the same slip pattern.
In a way, the names on that crew list seems incomplete, as several crew had family. Sunil Shukla, and I was leaving for Goa after that flight to attend a wedding.

There have been air tragedies during my flying career, for me, this was close to the heart. Too many good memories

Who does one begin with. Sampath, a leader and lover of good life. Had some extraordinary moments with him in New York, Roma and on flights. Inder, who was contemplating working full time in what is known now as Bollywood used to confide almost everything. SP came to New York in 84 and stayed with Jr and me and we were together throughout. Dinshaw, Capt Bhinder and all the dear colleagues gone in a flash due madness and hatred.
Remember vividly the moment in Holiday Inn Roma Coffee shop when Capt SC Mohan broke the stunning and sad beyond words news. R.I.P.

Inder Thakur was a friend and batchmate. SP Singh was someone I came to know, and like, after several flights together. In addition, there were 3 passengers from Toronto who were known to me personally. Tragic and so totally unnecessary... Canada has a black eye for not having handled this issue the way it should have been...
