It is with great sadness that John and Jennifer Clarke announce the death of their father John Clarke on Friday Aug. 3, 2012. He was surrounded by the people he loved and he passed peacefully at the Peter Lougheed hospital in Calgary. John amazed family, friends and colleagues with his courage and inner strength in dealing with his physical challenges right up until the last day of his life.

He was born in Willesley Castle in the town of Matlock Bath, England during the final days of the Second World War before moving to Calgary, Canada with his parents John and Betty in 1946.

In the early '70s John and his family began raising Appaloosas and Quarter Horses on their acreage in Keoma, Alberta with their company Clarke's Quarter Horses. At the same time he began his long and distinguished career in the oil industry with Clarke's Power Tongs. He finished his illustrious work life as a Public Relations Consultant with Savanna Energy in Calgary, and it was a position he enjoyed tremendously.

John moved with Wendy Clarke to Chestermere, Alberta in the late '90s where he contributed exceptionally to the Chestermere community.
He was a man well loved and respected by all those individuals he worked and played with throughout his personal and professional life.

John is survived by his son John Clarke Jr. (Kathy); his daughter Jennifer Clarke-Arora (Vin), his stepdaughter Nicole Murphy (Jarrett); all his wonderful grandchildren; his parents John and Betty and his siblings Susan (Robert); Peter (Joni) and Denise (Chris).

A celebratory memorial of John Clarke's extraordinary life is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers a charitable donation can be made to the Calgary Drop-In Centre.

"I have read all the wonderful messages to you John and I so agree with all of them. You truly were a positive and optimistic human being and was a great provider and family man, there wasnt anything that you couldn't fix. We raised to beautiful children, John and Jennifer and for that I feel so blessed. One wonders why so many obstacles can one overcome as you have had to as they were thrown your way. Its been said that God only gives you as much as you can endure but I feel you were given an overload. Being an ex-wife doesn't mean I stopped loving. You left us way, way to soon. Your passing was extremely upsetting and came as such a shock to me, much more than I would have thought, I miss you so much and the crazy life we led with the horses and the silly things, but funny predicaments you could get yourself into like burning up the hedge at the farm while starting the Barbeque...even tho I know you are no longer in pain both physically and mentally I also know how much you enjoyed and loved life and you fought so hard. I'm so glad we got to talk, extensively two weeks before your passing, I only wished we could have been that way long before then, God Bless You and Farewell, I miss you, love Rita.

It was with great saddness I discovered your father's passing.
I have known your father since the early 70's when we worked for International Minerals and Chemicals Drilling Fluids Division.
Your father was always a gentleman and had a great attitude. He was a inspiration to me in the way he handled adversity, never a complaint, always postive.
John you will be missed, your laughter, your jest for life will be remembered.
