Memorial
Jewel joined her Lord in heaven July 24, 2018, at the age of 90. Jewel is the loving wife of Charles W. Laabs for 66 years and the loving mother of Jonathan (June) Laabs, David (Karen) Laabs, Timothy (Jennifer) Laabs, and Christopher (Anita) Laabs. Jewel’s love and dedication to family extended to her grandchildren Joshua (Heidi) Laabs, Cameron Laabs, Daniel (Allison) Laabs, Kaleena (Travis) Tolsma, Jeffrey Laabs, Thomas (Kristin) Laabs, Veronica Laabs, Charles C. Laabs & Noah Laabs. Another great joy in her life was to spend time with her great-grandchildren Macie and Vivienne Laabs, and Harper and Tucker Tolsma.
Born and married in Milwaukee, Jewel and Chuck settled in Maywood, living in the same house for 46 years before becoming part of a senior community in Northlake.
Jewel was a strong Christian who faithfully served at St. Paul Lutheran Church for 50 years including 15 years as church secretary. Besides generously volunteering her time at St. Paul, she also was involved with several service groups at Concordia University Chicago.
