My father had many interests ranging from music to sports, but his favorite interest of them all was his family... He loved them so much..
Howard Hubbard was a father, husband, grandfather, and great friend. He was my best friend in all the world. He would give you the shirt off his back or the last dolar in his pocket. He was the kind of man that if you met him once, you would never forget him. He was a soldier for 21 years and fought 3 tours in Vietnam where he met my mom and married her in October 1972. He was Born in Baltimore Maryland and lived his life there until he joined the service at 21. He had a great love for his family and he adored his wife of 38 years. He has 2 great children and 2 beautiful grand daughters, who he thought the world of. He has done so much in his life of 70 years and will truly be missed. He never said a bad thing about anyone and he forgave everyone.. His heart was pure and full of love. He appreciated the little things in life and enjoyed everyday of his life he lived. He loved sports and country music. He loved television as well. Howard Hubbard was respected by many and aquired the nickname "Hub" during his service years. He retired from the army in 1982 as a SFC(Sergeant First Class). He worked for the Department of Defense for aproximately 20 years, before he lost his leg in 2001. From there he was forced to medically retire from his job in 2002 with honors and he recieved awards for recognition of dedication and hard work for the Deapartment of Defense. Dad I love you and I miss you dearly.....

I know you know the viper, Randy Orten won the championship belt, you called it weeks before your departure. I'll never forget our monday night raw and friday night smack down thrills. I'll never forget you, hub! I know you're in a better place, free from suffering. Thanks for your jokes, your advice and your caring. You were loved by us all and you will be missed terribly. We'll keep your family in our prayers and in our hearts. You loved the Lord, and you are with Him now, if we follow your example, we will all see you again, some day.

Much Love,

To the Hubbard Family,
Returning from vacation I heard that we had lost Mr. Hubbard. It was sad for me and I cried. I did not really expect it even though I knew he was sick. He never complained about his illness. He seem to except it like a real soldier. He never complained. We had a good nurse-patient relationship and it was a real privelge to care for him. He always had something good or funny to say, and I loved his spirit. I will miss him and miss seeing his family especially his wife who I know he adored so much. He spoke of his family often.

For as long as I can remember there were always the best times with my father. He was my best friend and the one person I could tell anything to and know he would not hate me or judge my choices in life. I remember all kinds of things with my dad from going to baseball and hockey games to going fishing out on the chesapeake bay.. The best times I ever had in my life is with my dad.... Each day with my dad was a blessing and joy in my life, and now it seems as though all of it was a dream since he is not here any more. I wouldpick up the phone and call him and talk about something stupid I saw on TV and he would say "Lisa you called me up to tell me that?" I would reply "yes" and he would just laugh at me. Now I want to pick up the phone and call him and I know he will not answer me.... I moved away from him so many times and he always brought me home and 9 days before he passed I brought him home to celebrate his grand daughters birthdays and he had the best time of his life... The one day I bring him home is the last time he would see his home... I will never forget the smile on his face that day and I will never forget all he has done for me....

Mr. Howard Hubbard will be so missed here at the VA Medical Center. He came to our chapel services regularly. He never missed a day if he could at all help it. About a year ago he asked me one day if I was pregnant and I said, "no, but maybe I need to quit wearing this blouse." He stumbled over himself to apologize and I assured him it was fine. Less than a week later I found out that I was indeed pregnant. I told him first here at the medical center and we agreed that he had a deeper knowledge and wisdom. He most certainly did.

"Each man lives eternally through the lives he has touched. You were a comforting sanctuary for so many of us and you will live on forever in our hearts, our minds and our stories. Rest now, your work is over. Save me a seat, I'll see you one day."
