Heather Rachelle Brown Elliot December 12, 1972 - November 3, 2008 SALEM - Heather Brown Elliott, born December 12, 1972 to Marvin J. Brown and Mary Ann Franklin, died suddenly this Monday, November 3, 2008 at the age of 35 at OHSU Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Heather was born in Hayward, California and moved to Salem in 1979. In her thirty-five years, Heather lived life to the fullest. She had sky-dived, and run a marathon, and cracked a rib while being run over by her own snowmobile. Heather loved to be active and run, water ski, and snow ski, but also enjoyed to relax and sun-bathe while reading a favorite book and sipping her famous lemon-drop martinis. She enjoyed wake-boarding at the Salem Yacht and Boat Club, and spending time with her close friends from her neighborhood (a.k.a. "The Loop"). Everyone knew Heather as the life of the party. She was known and loved for being a bit feisty and was always able to get away with pushing the limits. From a young age, Heather had a heart for helping children and made it her career and life calling. After receiving her B.S. from Oregon State in Human Development and Family Sciences in 1996, she went to work as a children's drug and alcohol counselor for New Step Behavioral Health. She left there to work for Family Building Blocks and then went on to work for the State of Oregon Department of Human Services, where she worked for the last nine years as a Children's Protective Services Specialist, protecting children from dangerous and abusive environments. During her time there, she was instrumental in helping develop the Polk County Drug Court program, the first program of its kind in Polk County that helps troubled families create a healthy environment for their children. She was deeply devoted to her work, and known for being willing to make any personal sacrifice necessary. It was not uncommon for her to get up at 3 a.m. and work through the night to help place children in need. Heather's daughter, Madison Brown, was born to Steve Jared and Heather in October of 1996. Madison was the light of her life and always her first priority. There was nothing she would not do for Madison, and at every opportunity, put Madison's needs and well-being ahead of her own. Heather was a fiercely devoted and strict mother and loved her only daughter with all her heart. Heather found her soulmate in Jude Elliott in 2001. They were married in September 2005 at Willamette Valley Vineyards. They were best friends and enjoyed doing everything together. Throughout their loving relationship, they shared many travels to such places as Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Mexico, and their unforgettable Caribbean cruise. They created many wonderful memories together while running on their Hood-to-Coast relay team, "The Loopers", zip-lining in Belize, snorkeling in the Grand Caymans, snow skiing in Whistler, and house-boating on Lake Shasta. Surviving Heather are her husband, Jude Elliott; her daughter, Madison Brown; her mother, Mary Ann Franklin; her father and step-mother, Marvin and Nancy Brown; her brother and sister-in-law, Corey and Sara Brown; and her favorite nephew, Cooper Brown. Services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Heights Church, 375 Madrona Ave. S, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "Her Place" (a local drug and alcohol program for inpatient treatment and housing of women and their children) or to a college fund for Heather's daughter, Madison. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Heather taught us all about how to live a life filled with love, passion and grace. The world will be a little bit less fun without her and we will miss her incredibly. She will never be forgotten.

Heather, you brought so much fun to my life. I will never forget our White Russian days, spending time on the beach, shopping at the outlets, my bachlorette party, and so much more. You made my life so much brighter and you will be greatly missed.

I love you so much,
Cathi Elliott (Sister-in-law)

Friends and Family,

I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the support and love that you have provided through this difficult time. I believe Heather is aware of all the kind and loving gestures you all have shown. We can get through this as a whole. Madison and I are transitioning back into our lives and we will need much help with that. All the support from Madison's friends has been hugely helpful. I am amazed at how strong these children are.

If anyone has some photos of Heather it would be much appreciated if I could borrow them. They can be on a CD, flash drive, emailed, or a physical photo. We need some help with these for the service. If you label them with your names and drop them off at our home that would be great. (The sooner the better as the service will probably be this Saturday). We will need additional help as well with the service, so I may be contacting you with some additional needed help. Thank you for all your love and support. Seeing and hearing from all of you is sure a testament of how special Heather is.

Please feel free to forward this email to anyone as I do not have all the email address.
