Hal Douglas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and legendary voiceover artist, died peacefully at his home in Virginia on March 7, 2014 with his wife and daughter by his side. Hal was known not only for his incomparable voice, which could be heard on thousands of movie trailers, television and radio promos, commercials, documentaries, and as the spokesman for numerous broadcast networks, but also for his warmth, humility, humor, and generosity of spirit. He loved his work, as much for the joy of craftsmanship as for the relationships he had with his fellow talent, directors, producers, engineers, studio and staff--including his treasured agent Donna Mancino, and the entire CESD family. Hal once said, “The real art is the art of life- the art of living.” He exemplified this philosophy through his devotion to his family and friends, his love of nature and travel, his spirituality, and by sharing the fruits of his labor with countless charities and friends in need. Though for the majority of his career he recorded at studios in New York City, he spent the last 15 years happily working from his home studio at the bucolic horse farm he shared with his beloved wife, Ruth, in Northern Virginia. Hal was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010, and thanks to his treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic and additional support from The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment, he and his family were able to enjoy another four years of his exquisite life. Hal, who lives forever in our hearts, will be dearly missed by his wife Ruth; children Sarah, Jeremy, and Jon; and grandchildren Jordan, Jake, and Dylan. Onward Hal!

We must be willing to relinquish the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

I am saddened by this. Many years of hearing his voice and procuring excitement to movies I wanted to see, has passed. My heart goes out to Sarah, and her family, but perhaps go in peace knowing that he lived a full and bountiful life full of people that loved and cherished him greatly.

Blessings to the Douglas family. May he rest in peace.

To the Douglas Family -
I want to send all of you my sincere condolences and many thoughts and prayers for your great loss. You are a wonderful family and it is not hard to understand why with the outstanding influence of Hal as your guide.

I loved Hal from the very minute I met him. I was expecting Jordan and met Hal when he visited Key West in June 1992, he was larger than life and just so warm and thoughtful toward me. He was so kind.....such a caring and wonderful man.
He had a very eccentric and well recognized voice. So many times when Jordan, his Grandson, was growing up, we would hear Hal's deep and smooth voice on television, or radio, or at the movies and Jordan would always smile and say "that's my Grandpa Hal" and Jordan is still so proud of his grandfather.

We love you all and we will dearly miss "Grandpa Hal" He will remain in our hearts, as one of the world's very top notch men, forever. Knowing him more as part of family than for his great voice, I can say that Hal was one of the very nicest and kindest men I have ever known. He was generous, intelligent, so kind and sweet, and I will keep him my heart.

Love and hugs to the entire Douglas Family and thank you for being in our lives!

You had a great 4 years running and I loved you since a kid with that fantastic voice! I used to pretend when I was "in a movie" that you were the one doing my trailer. So awesome! I want to say thank you for all things and nice to put a voice to a face. My father is diagnosed with the same and it is so wonderful to know you gave 4 extra extraordinary years. I appreciate you voice and it is a voice that was unique and will never be replaced. You have a friend that you have never met. Godspeed my friend! To the family, you were blessed with a legend.

Thank you in my sincere thoughts and prayers.
