The last time I saw Greg was on the MAX in Portland. He had his kids with him and he was so happy to be on an adventure with them.
Greg was such a resourceful kid when we were growing up. He bought boxes of candy bars at a food wholesaler and would take them to school (Joseph Lane) and sell them at retail. This was pre-candy machines being available to students. Greg and I worked at J&J Market and had a lot of fun avoiding our families. . .
I'm sorry that Greg passed at such a young age. He is such a happy part of my childhood.

This is one of Dad's favorite Johnny Horton songs:

Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.

Big Sam left Seattle in the year of '92,
With George Pratt, his partner, and brother, Billy, too.
They crossed the Yukon River and found the bonanza gold.
Below that old white mountain just a little south-east of Nome.

Sam crossed the majestic mountains to the valleys far below.
He talked to his team of huskies as he mushed on through the snow.
With the northern lights a-running wild in the land of the midnight sun,
Yes, Sam McCord was a mighty man in the year of nineteen-one.

Where the river is winding,
Big nuggets they're finding.
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.

Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.

George turned to Sam with his gold in his hand,
Said: "Sam you're a-lookin'at a lonely, lonely man.
"I'd trade all the gold that's buried in this land,
"For one small band of gold to place on sweet little Ginnie's hand.

"'Cos a man needs a woman to love him all the time.
"Remember, Sam, a true love is so hard to find.
"I'd build for my Ginnie, a honeymoon home.
"Below that old white mountain just a little south-east of Nome."

Where the river is winding,
Big nuggets they're finding.
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.
North to Alaska,
They're goin' North, the rush is on.

Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
Way up north, (North To Alaska.)
Way up north, (North To Alaska.)

"" Miss not seeing you at the pharmacy or hearing your voice on my cell phone saying "hey you give me call." It's hard not to look toward your house when I go to work,I keep expecting to see smoke from the chimney. Miss your smile and laughter."

"I miss you, your jokes, your laughter, YOU! I wish you had not gone so soon. Cedar still says, "Grandpa's at WalMart, he'll be back." Oh, how I wish that were true. You were an amazing man. I'm blessed to have had you in my life. I love you DAD!"

"Nothing I can say will bring you back. Nearly 3 months & I no longer call your phone hoping you'll answer, or so the house feels less lonely, still the tears haven't abated. May this page bring comfort to those of us left. Until we meet again, Dad"
