Memorial
May 13, 2012 - Gary Wood, age 62, passed away at the Togus VA Hospice, in Augusta. Gary was an area resident who grew up and attended school in Norway. He enlisted in the Marine Corp at the age of 18 and was awarded the purple heart after being wounded in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Edwards AFB in California, where he refueled planes. The end of his Air Force career was spent in Limestone, Maine.
Gary lived in Eliot, Maine for awhile, where he had a career in interior and exterior house painting and was also employed to work on the Piscataqua River bridge between Maine and New Hampshire.
Gary was good with kids and enjoyed babysitting his younger cousins, nieces and nephews. He loved family gatherings. His most recent passion was working on family genealogy. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Oxford. Gary’s calling at the church was working at the Family History center.
Gary leaves behind two sisters; Dolores Grondin of Riverview, Florida and Donna Marshall of West Paris; one brother, Ryan Wood of Ventura, California and one nephew, Tim Wood of West Paris, and one niece Dawn Lapham of Somersworth, NH and several great nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his father Francis Wood, mother Hazel Williams and sister Wanda Lapham.
Gary’s family wishes to thank the wonderful hospice staff at the Togus VA in Augusta and all of his friends who visited during his stay there. There is no funeral at his request. A graveside ceremony is planned and an announcement to follow at a later date.

Gary came down to California and visited with us. We had a great time getting to know his heart. He was a funny guy with a great smile. We watched movies together and he loved chinese food. I am so glad that I led him to the Lord before he boarded the plane when he left. I thank God for having met such a wonderful man the Wood Family. My prayers to all the family

I will always remember my cousin Gary as a fun loving person. He just liked to make people smile. I'll never forget how he liked to play a harmless practical joke or tell a story that would make you giggle or sneak up on you and scare the whits out of you. Gary was always more than good to me and I will always carry a smile, with his name on it, in my heart. My love, my thoughts and my prayers are with his family. Dolly, Donna and Ryan, I'm very sorry for your loss.

We only met Gary a year ago but enjoyed knowing him. Jody, Joel and I were very thankful for his gift to us of the Wood Family tree since my Dad was a Wood. Our sympathy to his Brother and Sisters.
