Gary Allen

Dear Friends...

Welcome to this celebration of Gary Allen's life.

Gary was an extraordinary guy with a rare approach to life. He affected people in all sorts of ways... as a brother, a mentor, a father, a friend, a partner. And he was my darling husband and very best friend.

Gary was born in East Orange, N.J., and his career in film promotion began with 1965's campaign for United Artists' "How to Murder Your Wife."

He was responsible for creating trailers, posters/one-sheets and radio spots for films from "Midnight Cowboy" to "The Graduate," "Animal House" and the original "Star Wars."

In 1982, along with Joe Menza, we founded Entertainment Marketing Concepts, which continues to produce marketing materials and documentaries for films.

Gary loved teaching anyone everything he knew about anything. He had written a pamphlet on film editing at one time to hand out to anyone interested in the field. When video came to dominate the industry, he moved on to the motorcycle business with the exact same spirit of mentorship.

Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara Toennies, and his five children and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Heal the Bay.
