I was looking through some old letters today and came across one from Erynn. Erynn and I met while at FIDM. I decided to try to look her up on-line as I have several times over the last decade+. So said to find her obituary. I wish I had done a better job keeping in touch. Her letter was so humorous and witty and it made me miss her a ton. So very sad!

Sad is not adequate to describe the news of Erynn's passing. San Fransisco has never been more fun than the first time she and I took a road trip there in her Ticonderoga No2 Yellow Volvo. The police officer was actually quite lovely! Another one of those: "only with Erynn" stories that we all had the great privilege of sharing in. She was beauty, light and joy. Loved my many and missed by all. Safe Home My Friend.

I think of you nearly everyday and know that you were taken too soon from us. I ask myself, "why can't you still be here?" I guess that is a mystery to all of us. I hope you are in a peaceful place. Miss you dearly. Much love.

Miss Jette!
It's your Birthday and we miss you like crazy! We went and had iced tea and Indian food at the place you liked so much and I bought a special purple flower and some poppies to plant tomorrow. You are being celebrated and remembered in Olympia, and Bellingham, and Texas. Hope you are in The Happiest Place. Tonight the sunset was so pink and when the moon rose it was first hidden behind pink clouds. Miss you madly! SP

Miss Jette,
How many years we made Valentine's! How many times we ate chocolate! How many times we told the world we loved it! This day is especially a holiday for you who were so loving and kind. Today a lady gave me Valentine's Play-doh and I thought how much you would love that detail. I am thinking of you and all the art and holidays we shared. Thank you.

A while back, I was lamenting to Jette on the phone that I was having a bad day. She said, "I'm picking you up in 15 minutes...bring your camera." She took me to the Lakewold Gardens where we spent the afternoon walking among the amazing landscape, taking pictures of the most beautiful flowers. It was so relaxing, peaceful, and just what I needed. Somehow she knew.

One of my favorite memories of my times with Erynn is when we were training an office together in San Francisco. We found this little Asian fusion type restaurant near our hotel, where the drink special was called a Tiger Paw. Well, Erynn absolutely loved them (I admit, they were delicious). We ended up going back there the next night to get another one and so Erynn could get the recipe from the bartender. She said it was her new favorite drink. I see her birthday is coming up, maybe I will have a Tiger Paw that day.

Thought I would share.

2 oz citrus vodka
2 oz lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar
fill with orange soda

I was shocked when I heard (just today)of Erynn's passing. I worked with Dr. Curt Pippen (Glendale, Az) in 1998 when our Oral Surgery Practice decided to go with DSN. Working with DSN and Erynn was wonderful. I'm sorry we lost contact,I called this week to ask about upgrading our software and to my shock I was told this news. To her family, I'm so sorry for your loss. My heartfelt sympathy from all at Arrowhead Oral Surgery. Arizona.

Today I braved the arts and crafts store, and Lo and Behold, instead of being as agonizingly sad as all these days before, I felt you were right there with me the whole time, and Happily. Talk about memory lane! I think every art era was represented, as I reminisced about how we did everything from pastels to paints to collages to stickers to mosaics to stocking up on markers and stamps and scissors that cut fancy edges...We sure did a lot with Paper! And Color! All the happy memories of sitting with our hot tea or our iced tea and just Doing Art. Today I bought some purple paper and some lilac paper and some butterfly and seahorse stickers to share with all your friends and family. So many people miss you...

We have been very far away from you all this time, almost on the other side of the world, but you came to visit us, you got sick and then you became as a big sister for our children. We also went to visit you and just for such a small periods of time in life you got rooted in our hearts. So for us, you never left, you are still very far away, physicaly, but yet very close and alife as always in our hearts and memories. God bless you.

Miss Jette! I need to talk to you! What else is new? No, I mean I really need to talk to you! Sometimes when the phone rings I still think it could be you. Thank you for thousands of good times, for lending an ear, and a laugh, and a sigh, and a long distance high-five, or a shoulder to cry on, and Thanks for letting me Listen too. I was honored.

I am so thankful that I was one of many that was able to get to know this special person and had the pleasure of working with her at DSN. Erynn was down to earth, a pleasure to be around and had so much joy that came with her. I will forever remember you for your smile and the color purple....oh and those darn logic puzzles; you sure could whiz through those things like no other. You will be dearly missed and it’s so sad that this world has lost such a extraordinary person with such a huge heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your family for your loss. <3

You never missed my birthday with a purple envelope and a Johnny Depp card surprise. Remember the last time we had dinner at the Mexican restaurant and they let us stay after it closed?! Did you ever get to test the inks we talked about on your Vandercook? I always looked forward to the many book arts workshops with you sitting in front. We all enjoyed your enthusiasm and smile. I still have your panel book box on my shelf. Such perfect corners in purple.

Jette Black!
Every day you are the thing that is missing! I love reading what memories every one else shares and it makes me think that at least you did 100 years of living in your 45 years. Today I drank iced tea and I bought a purple dress. Pure purple, just for you! And I want to be coming to your wedding or graduation or baby shower or the opening of your letter press shop or your math and art school...and not instead thinking of funerals! I know we will all celebrate as best we can. You certainly had and gave a lot of joy. I listened to your last phone message today and as always you were sweet and thinking of someone else and being my awesome friend and helper as we tried to save the world, one tiny problem at a time.

Your smile and laughter reach out across a room, across a city, around the world and grab me.
I can't think of you Jette without smiling, now through tears.
I missed what I didn't know would be a last chance to see you, but treasure the wonderful times I did have. Walking the trails of Bellingham, the streets and sites of London and a spectacular little Welsh beach.
I recently found some soap from a long ago crazy day of laughing so much it hurt. I'm sure you and Colleen are laughing together now.
I love and miss you wonderful lady.

I am glad we reconnected recently, I sure wish we could have kept that dinner date though. I will miss my future travelling companion, you are certainly a fun one to travel with.

God Bless you my friend, it has been an honor and so much fun to know you. Thank you for such wonderful memories!:)

We Thought Of You Today

We thought of you today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought of you yesterday
And will tomorrow, too.

We think of you in silence
And make no outward show.
For what it meant to lose you
Only those who love you know.

Remembering you is easy,
We do it everyday.
It's the heartache of losing you
That will never go away.

After getting to know and work with Charley and Buzz, what a pleasure it was getting to know "Charley's Girls", "Angels", both of them. Smart, beautiful, talented and goal directed. Little did I know that I would go looking for a printing press in the hills of Indiana for Erynn! What a pleasure it was to work with her on the DSN products and on installation and training of, thanks to the DSN family, our mutual clients. The world is a better place for her contibutions, personally and professionally, to each of us. Thank you for giving us your time and wonderful self. Know that our prayers are with your family as you enjoy paradise, eternally

Dear Big Sis!

I’m going to miss you so much. You have no idea how you positively impacted my life. Growing up with a single mom and no siblings, I don’t know which direction I would have gone if you didn’t enter my life. Thank you for the movie outings, arts & crafts, introducing me to fresh baked bread dipped in olive oil and vinegar  I remember visiting Ellen and Monte with their big dogs and taking them on long walks by the water, they would pull pretty hard but we handled it together ! Remember the crazy summer solstice party with candles lighting the path in the woods? Haha that was an adventure!
I’m so very thankful that we reconnected recently at the Matador. Your smile, laugh and love is unchanging and I’ll carry that with me always. I love you forever Erynn, love lil sis CJ

Jette Black, I am sorry you had to go and still quite shocked about it. Thank you for leaving behind such beautiful family and friends whose stories and memories are such a joy to read. Last night I had a waking dream that some of your friends brought me a tiny songbird made of dried purple hydrangeas. Eva and I go around each day saying, "purple birds" "purple birds". The hyacinth we got for you the day after the news came is still blooming! It sits out as the very fragrant centerpiece in the backyard, at the bistro table, and I am ready to serve your iced tea anytime. Should you choose to swing by!

Erynn, I will miss you very much. I remember you and Kym teaching Eric and I how to play Simon Says when we were kids. Thank you for blessing us all with the time we did have with you here on this earth.

I met Erynn through my wife, Jody. I was happy that, during the past few years, I had developed a friendship with Erynn on my own. When Jody was out of town, often Erynn and I would go out to dinner - to places my wife had no interest in. Erynn was an adventurous diner and was game to try any kind of new restaurant. She came over to our house frequently for dinner, playing games, and just hanging. I'll be forever grateful for how she helped my son get through high school algebra. Miss you, Jette!!!!

Erynn, I thought of you this morning when I went outside and spotted a hummingbird lying on our patio in the Arizona rain. Our soft-mouthed dachshund, Jack, was quicker than I and retrieved and dropped him at my feet. After drying his small body off, stroking and comforting him, I laid his limp body in the palm of a glove on the patio table. Eventually he came to life and flew off to do what hummingbirds do. He lives on and is free to fly again, as you are Erynn. You left us with such nice memories.

Erynn, When we gaze up at the stars tonight the brightest star will be you. Your spirit has returned to your source. And now you may see the big picture and are surely touched by the enormous love that follows you, the legacy you left us, the gift you shared through your laughter, your amazing talent and creativity, your compassion, your love of animals, your smile that could light up an entire room, your spirit of adventure, and the ability you had to turn the simplest thing into a whole lot of fun. And now you are on to the next big adventure! Go, my friend, and spread your joy. And know that you left the world and the lives you came in contact with a much better place. You will be missed.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Erynn's passing. She is at a very peaceful and wonderful place. She will be greatly missed. She had such a wonderful smile and cheerful comment every time you met her. Her laughter was contagious and we had fun talking and doing art project together. The laughter that came with the projects would bring tears to our eyes.
Working with Erynn was such a pleasure. She knew the answers to questions that no one else did, she was amazing.
She will be deeply missed.

It's a shocker and such a sad momment.... but my memory of first meeting Erynn as our trainer (patient and encouraging), then over the various AAP meeting (full of energy), but the best momment was how happy she was to come down with Charlie to pick up her printer. Always smiling, cheerful, and happy.... what a great person to have touched my life.

What an honor to know Erynn. I have looked up to her for as long as I can remember. She was the oldest of the 6 cousins and I was always amazed by her. As a child she could sport braces and head-gear like it was high fashion. She taught me how to request a song on the radio, how to stuff a bra and told me not to drink water from the faucet in California (who knew).
I have so many great memories from California visits to reunions at the beach. Many trips to Disneyland and an unforgettable stay in a little travel trailer at Aunt Maxines.
I will never forget her energy, her smile and her million dollar laugh. She could light up any room she walked into.
I will keep her in my heart forever.
I will miss you cousin.

We didn't get to spend enough time with Erynn, but she was an absolute delight every time we saw her. And she was a sincerely nice person, with a beautiful soul that seemed to glow through her bright eyes. We'll miss her.

Erynn was a very special person. She marched to her own drummer, as many special people do. Her smile, her love, her sense of humor, her thoughtfulness and kindness, made us all feel we were as special to her as she was to us.

I am very blessed to have Erynn as my niece. I will miss her terribly. But I truly believe she is in a better place where she is needed to use her special talent for teaching math to those who want to learn.

Thank you, Erynn, for sharing your time with us. Love you.

Erynn was such a joy to know and will be dearly missed. She and I were attending Western Washington University at the same time, although I started later (2002-2007) and she was so sweet to me. Erynn was an amazing artist and always seemed like a big sister. She was so full of life and loved everyone she knew without pretense. We need more people like Erynn in this life we live. She loved spending time doing artwork with Buzz's mother and my grandmother, Lyn Greene.

Thank you for the memories, Erynn!
