Charles Henry Lee Jr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1941 and grew up in nearby Canton. He met the love of his life, Diane Ferguson, in Kindergarten, married her in 1963 and remained her husband and best friend until he departed this Earth this week at the age of 73.

Charles earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State in 1963 and began a successful career that led him to Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, making lifelong friends along the way. He was both savvy and a salesman, winning numerous awards from his long-time employer, Northern Telecom.

To escape the “big city” on weekends, Charles and Diane retreated to Lake Hawkins in East Texas. It was there that Charles built his “Lee’s Landing” lake house and eventually retired there at age 55, entertaining friends and family with weekends spent boating, camping, listening to Lynyrd Skynrd, eating ice cream and enjoying a cold beer. With the simple words “Make it hap’n, Cap’n”, Charles was always up to give his kids, nephews or their friends one more trip around the lake.

If you wanted it, Charles would do his best to satisfy your whims. And from watching Jerry Springer to indulging at Hooters – for the wings, of course – he was pretty adept at keeping himself happy as well.

Charles’ legacy of love and joy and living life to the fullest is carried on by his children – Trey Lee (with wife, Kim) and Leslie Ohlemeier (with husband, Brad) – and grandchildren – Morgan, Chase, Gabe, Kirsten and Zach.

After a long struggle at the end of a prosperous life, Charles is reunited with his parents, Mildred and Henry. The Lee Family would like to thank the numerous caregivers who helped along the way. And we ask that, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Charles’ name. (click Donate tab above or visit http://goo.gl/UFJiNa)

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Charles’ life, Sunday afternoon Aug. 30 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Lee’s Landing (1103 CR 3470, Hawkins, TX 75765-5077).

In closing, the family asks in honor of Charles: Always try to live in the moment, make memories and be sure to enjoy them while they happen.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Charles. May you find comfort in knowing our Heavenly Father holds out the hope of the resurrection for our deadlocked ones. His son, Jesus,, said "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". John 5:28,29. Our dead loved ones are in God's memory and one day he will resurrect them to a paradise earth. Psalm 37:9,10,11,29. Job 15:14,15 says he has a yearning to do so. Isn't that comforting to know? Revelation 21:3,4 says that one day on this earth, death will be no more, neither will pan or mourning be any more.

Dear Lee Family,

Please accept my deepest condolences. I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope you might find comfort in knowing that our loved ones that have died are safe in Gods memory and we will soon have the opportunity to welcome these ones back to eternal life on a paradise earth. In God's word, the Bible, we find this promise: "The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it.". (Psalm 37:29)

With Sincerity,
Abby

I am truly sorry to hear of Charles' passing. We worked together at Nortel in the 1980's. Charles convinced me to take my brand new Ford Bronco off road...and it worked out -- great adventure. And I can still see him running his jet boat down the lake, hat on backwards, just having a ball on the water. Diane -- I am sorry for your loss!

Charles was an original; funny, scary smart, and always patient when he knew you were trying your hardest. I learned a lot from Charles over a decade of airports, meetings, and closing deals. Charles was often that rare voice of logic; he things got done that nobody thought possible. Rest in peace buddy...and thank you for spending time with us.
