My mother was in Seaside as Barbara's roommate when she passed away. My mother held Barbara's hand that night when she went to Heaven. Mom only knew Barbara for a couple of weeks, but told me she was one of the nicest people she ever met. I did meet Barbara on the first day my mother went into Seaside. My husband and I were both so impressed with her in so many ways. Barbara was friendly and kind and had a great sense of humor. In speaking with her, we realized what a full and happy life Barbara had lived. She must have been a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all. My deepest sympathy on your loss...also, from my mother, Beverly Luke, who was her roommate.

Your mom, grandmother, and our friend will be greatly missed by us all. I am so glad Emily and I were able to visit Barb in Portland. There are so many wonderful memories from Portland to Findlay, OH to Up North, MI. I am so blessed to have these memories and to have known Barb.

I knew Barb and Bill my whole entire life. I have such great memories of them both, visiting with them on Stone Street, and even when they moved to Fenton. They both made me feel like one of their children. Not that long ago I spoke with Barb and told her what great memories I have going to their house to "play" for all those years. She was such a kind person (and she made the best grilled cheeses). My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

One January evening Barb and I were dining at her favorite Fenton Hotel. Chatting over our one Martini, Barb was saying how excited she was to be leaving in two days to visit with Mollie and Emily. She was overwhelmed by a dream she had the night before. It was a summer setting and she was visiting her Grandmother Nora’s home. When she entered, Nora was sitting at a window seat with the window open and soft summer breezes were blowing the sheer curtains as to create an ethereal atmosphere.
Barb came into the room and Nora said, “Oh Babsy,” Nora’s favorite name for Barb, “Come and sit by me.” Barb went and sat with her and Nora embraced her. Barb said the overwhelming feeling of love filled her and when she woke up she continued to be surrounded by this love. I suggested the dream was anticipation of being a Grandmother with Emily and Mollie in a few days. Barb agreed. “Or else,” I said, “It was the pepperoni pizza you had last night.” Barb laughed so hard and took my face in her hands and said, “I am so lucky to have you in my life.” Truly, it was all of us who were lucky to have Barbara Jennings in our lives.

My last phone conversation with Barb was lighthearted and left us feeling good about all – the same feeling I was lucky enough to have experienced with Barb for over 30 years.

I can only imagine your loss as her family. Keep in mind Barb and Bill will soon be firing up the motor home on their Spring Sojourn as they always felt that was “Pure Heaven”.

Love, Loretta

I am sad to hear of the death of Barbara. I have missed her greatly since she moved from Flint. We had many delightful lunches together discussing the many social issues Barbara was passionate about, our families and life in general - while sharing our mutual enjoyment of Mid-Eastern food. My sympathies to Barbara's family so dear to her. Harriet Kenworthy
