Barbara Barter

July 17, 1947

June 20, 2018

Barbara Eloise Barter passed away from a heart attack on the night of June 20th, 2018 at her home in Tacoma, Washington, USA. She will be missed; she was a loving mother, good friend, and a respected woman who prized honesty and integrity. Barbara is survived by daughter Christina Barter-Smith, and son Greg Shelver, and 3 grandchildren.
Barbara was focused on helping her children succeed in school and life. She also liked to go listen and dance to live music, and to attend games as a lifelong fan of her favorite sports teams, the SF Giants and 49ers. In her green Volkswagen Westfalia camper, she and her family and friends would often go camping in the mountains, the beach and at Candlestick tailgate parties.
Professionally, after graduating from San Mateo College, Barbara was a senior administrative assistant at a law firm, and at several Silicon Valley tech firms, including Intel, and Lifescan / Johnson & Johnson.
She was a longtime resident of Campbell & San Jose cities in California. After retirement, in 2016, she moved north with her daughter Christina, to Tacoma, WA, in order to be closer to her son and grandchildren living in Seattle. They lived there together while Christina attended nearby Tacoma college.

Memorial details:
When Barbara's beloved father Tom Barter passed away in 1994, she arranged a memorial ceremony with friends and family to scatter his ashes from a boat in San Francisco Bay. Her children thought this was also a fitting remembrance for their mother, and this is scheduled for Sat. Aug. 18 (8-18-18), through Marin Memorials, leaving Sausalito dock at 4 PM. [ ]

I just wanted to give my condolences and a comforting scripture. John 5:28 reads- 'Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.' This speaks of a resurrection of our dead loved ones. You and the family will be in my prayers. For even more comforting information, please visit
