August 15, 2015

K. Allen Johnson, 81, passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2015 in Seattle, WA. Allen was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Allen’s huge spirit, generous heart, and playful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Allen was passionate about his 40-plus-year career as a speech therapist working with children and their families, serving in the Franklin Pierce School District for 22 years and in various districts throughout Pierce and King Counties. He received his Master’s Degree from the University of Washington, Bachelor’s degrees from Seattle Pacific University and the University of Minnesota, and an Associate’s degree from North Park College in Chicago.

Allen is survived by daughters, Karlene Johnson (John Spence) and Elena Waite (Allan); grandchildren, Alex, Eli, and Sophia; and beloved girlfriend, Dodie Jordan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Johnson, and his parents, Arnold and Dorothy Johnson.

The family is grateful for the excellent, loving care and support Allen received from the staff and community at Ida Culver Ravenna and the professionals at Evergreen Hospice and for the excellent, compassionate care he received through the University of Washington from Dr. Zubin Vasavada and Dr. David Dichek (Heart Center).

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 2pm at The United Churches of Olympia, 110 11th Ave SE. Suggested remembrances: Alzheimer’s Association or a non-profit of your choice that helps children.

I worked with Allen for many years through the Franklin Pierce Schools. He was a remarkable man with lots of patience and compassion for students. Allen was an outstanding speech therapist and helped mentor me in my early years of teaching. We had lots of fun together sking at Crystal Mountain. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle man.

My sympathy to Allen's family.
Allen will be remembered for his light heart with humor and stories. Our meetings always included a laugh or two.
May his soul rest in peace.

"I am so sorry to hear about Allen. He was a wonderful person and will be missed. Every time I see a grey dog, I think of Allen as he and your mother gave us Peter the Pup who was a great dog. I worked with Allen in the 1960's and will miss him."
