Alice J. Sorensen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away in Sacramento on August 19, 2016 due to complications after an elective surgical procedure. She was 71.

Alice was born March 29, 1945 in San Francisco to parents Elmer and Alice (Graves) Sorensen, and spent her early life in the San Francisco bay area. She relocated to Modesto, CA over 30 years ago, where she resided until her death. She is survived by her three children, Daniel (Linda) Little of Woonsocket, RI; Dawna (Robert) Westphal of Modesto, CA; and David Overly of Reno, NV.

Alice was a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at Stanislaus Behavioral Health Center in Modesto, and greatly enjoyed her job, a career she embarked on somewhat late in life, graduating from nursing school in 1998 at age 53. She cherished the friendships she'd made at SBHC, and always spoke highly of their teamwork, dedication, concern and professionalism.

Alice was a dedicated and loving sister, mother and grandmother who cherished family gatherings and holidays. Years ago, she started a tradition at Christmas that consisted of a game she called "Crazy Bingo" which was a dice-rolling competition held around a huge table stacked high with gag gifts. As the years passed, the gifts became more and more "creative and bizarre," and nobody ever went home empty handed! Alice had an unparalleled sense of humor, a beautiful smile, a loud laugh, and a loving and generous heart. In her spare time, Alice enjoyed working on her home and was a avid carpenter, decorator and meticulous gardener. She always maintained an immaculate home that was serene and comfortable. Alice loved to travel frequently to visit relatives and friends throughout the USA, and was a "frequent flyer" who loved ultralight flights, parasailing and hot air ballooning.

Alice was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by three sisters, Ann (Alan DeHaan) Bruechner, Mary Sorensen, and Joan Sorensen, all of Tucson, AZ; and one brother, Joe Sorensen of Lagunitas, CA.

Alice was an incredible inspiration to everyone who knew her. Despite the medical conditions she battled, she always maintained a positive outlook and was always there to help those who were less fortunate. Alice will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Private services will be held by family members on both coasts, and Alice's ashes will be scattered in the Pacific as well as the Atlantic Ocean to commemorate her lifelong love of the sea.
